NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (14-15, 5-4 Great Midwest) took down the University of Findlay (6-18, 3-5 Great Midwest) (25-20, 23-25, 25-16, 16-25, 19-17) in Trojan Fieldhouse on Homecoming, Saturday.

THE SERIES

The Trojans picked up their first ever victory over Findlay on their fifth try. The teams played both home and away in each of the last two seasons, but will only meet twice if they square off in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament.

THE MATCH

The Trojans took the game's first two points before the Oilers responded to take their own two-point lead at 7-5. From there the lead changed just once with Trevecca separating late on a 3-0 run to lead 24-17. The Trojans took the set 25-20. Neither team led by more than four in the second set when Findlay took an 11-8 lead. Findlay surrendered the lead and were trailing 11-12, when a 4-0 run made it a 15-12 game. The Oilers trailed just once more after that run, 22-21, but closed the Trojans off 25-23 to even the match. The third set (25-16) went to the Trojans while the fourth set (25-16) belonged to Findlay. The Oilers took early leads of 4-1 and 7-4 before the Trojans tied it at 12-12. Findlay forced match point on three occasions, but the Trojans fended them off. An Ellie Buffler service ace and an attack error ended the match with the Trojans ahead 19-17.

TOP PLAYER

Ellie Buffler led the Trojans with 22 points, 20 kills and a team-best .312 attack percentage.

THE TEAM

The Trojans hit .202 (58 K, 22 E, 178 TA) for the game including .314 (16 K, 5 E, 35 TA) in the opening set.

WHAT'S NEXT 

Trevecca travels back to Ohio for a pair of weekend games against Tiffin (13-11, 7-1 Great Midwest) on Friday and Cedarville (14-8, 6-2 Great Midwest) on Saturday.

The Trojans are 1-3 versus the Tiffin Dragons and 4-14 versus the Cedarville Yellow Jackets.
