MASON, Ohio – Top-seeded Trevecca Nazarene University (31-19) defeated Davis & Elkins College (13-34), 3-1, in the opening round of the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Baseball Championships at Prasco Park.

Trevecca will serve you breakfast on Thursday at 8 AM CT at Prasco Park. WATCH LIVE The Trojans will face fouth-seeded Cedarville University (18-26) after the Yellow Jackets fell 3-1 to third-seeded Alderson Broaddus University on Wednesday. Trevecca is 20-4 versus Cedarville. Trevecca swept Cedarville this year and are on an eight game winning streak in the series. The last win for CU over TNU came May 14, 2014 at Legacy Field during the NCCAA National Tournament. 

 

Trevecca is 13-0 versus the Senators all-time. It is the first time the teams have met in the G-MAC championships.

 

The Trojans placed Jesse Peters (FR/Loveland, OH) on the mound in game one and the G-MAC all-freshman team member delivered a complete game victory and is now 3-3 on the year. Peters threw all nine innings for the Trojans and allowed just three hits and a run – earned, with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

 

Trevecca, playing as the home team as the top seed, scored one in the bottom of the first. Ethan Harrison (FR/Erlanger, KY) reached with a lead-off walk and moved to second when Tyler Tichenor (SR/Centertown, KY) reached on a hit-by-pitch. A double steal moved the duo to second and third with one out. Byron Shelton walked to load the bases for Zach Tompkins (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN). Tompkins hit a SAC Fly that scored Harrison.

 

D&E evened the score at 1-1 with a run in the top of the seventh.

 

The Purple and White responded with a game-deciding two-run bottom of the seventh. With one out Tyler Tichenor tripled, moving into second place all-time in career triples. Micah Blount (SR/Birmingham, AL) followed with a double that scored Tichenor. A wild pitch moved Blount to third. The Birmingham native scored on Bryson Shelton (JR/Powell, TN)'s single.

 

The three-time defending G-MAC Tournament champions reached Senator pitching for 10 hits. Each team had one miscue in the field.

 

Ethan Harrison reached on a pair of walks and scored once and claimed his 12th stolen base of the year. Tyler Tichenor hit his 17th career triple, scored the winning run, had two hits, grabbed his 28th stolen base, and reached on a hit-by-pitch. Micah Blount was 1-4 with a run scored, a double, and the game-winning RBI. Bryson Shelton went 2-3 with a walk, an RBI. Clay Staton (JR/Franklin, TN) also had a double and Ryan Arington (JR/Cincinnati, OH) produced a pair of hits.
