NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (20-14, 11-1 G-MAC) took two Great Midwest Athletic Conference games at Jackson Field versus Salem International University (5-26, 1-11 G-MAC). Game one went to the Trojans 4-1 and game two 12-2

The games were originally scheduled for Salem, but were moved to Nashville due to field availability. The games were played with Salem as the home team, meaning they batted last each game.

In game one Tyler Tichenor (SR/Centertown, KY) picked up his 97th career stole base to become the all-time leader in stolen bases. He broke the record held by Brad Coon.

Bryson Shelton (JR/Powell, TN) hit .500 for the week with four doubles and three RBI. Tyler Tichenor hit .435 for the week. Micah Blount (SR/Birmingham, AL) did some damage with a .474 batting average, eight runs scored, five extra base hits (three doubles, two home runs), with three RBI, two walks, and a stolen base. Clay Staton (JR/Franklin, TN) also turned in five extra base hits with three doubles and two triples.

As a team the Trojans hit .337 on the week and were 15-16 on stolen bases attempts. The pitching crew turned in a 2.47 earned run average with a shuout and three complete games. Bryan Smith (JR/Unionville, TN) and Jon Newman (SO/Gilbert, SC) turned in two complete game shutouts; Smith's was a five-hit shutout. Ivey Starling (SR/Brentwood, TN) had a seven-inning complete game. ÂÂ

Trevecca travels to Lincoln Memorial University (23-13) in Harrogate, Tenn. for a non-conference game beginning at 3 PM at Lamar Hennon Field. It is the first meeting for LMU and TNU in baseball since 2001. Trevecca coach Ryan Schmalz was an assistant with the Railsplitters prior to coming to Trevecca. (LIVE STATS)

Trevecca returns to G-MAC play when they visit Ohio Valley University in Vienna, WVa. for a pair of double headers Friday and Saturday. Trevecca is 9-1 versus OVU all-time. Trevecca is on a 6-game win streak in the series.

The Trojans do not return home until April 29-30 when Alderson Broaddus University visits for a crucial four-game series in G-MAC play. The final home series comes the following weekend when Trevecca hosts Kentucky Wesleyan College, another series that could determine the 2016 G-MAC title.

GAME ONE RECAP
Trevecca scored one in the first and Salem tied it at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the second. Trevecca tipped the game in their favor with a three-run seventh.

Ivey Starling pitched all seven for the complete game win and now stands at 5-3 on the year. Starling allowed five hits and a walk while taking down seven Tigers on strikes.

Ethan Harrison (FR/Erlanger, KY) and Tyler Tichenor were 2-4 at the plate and Bryson Shelton also had a multi-hit game going 3-3. Tichenor scored twice along with the career record stolen base. Shelton had two RBI with a double and a run scored.

In the seventh, Tyler Tichenor singled with one out in the inning. He stole second, setting the career stolen base record. Tichenor moved to third on a ground out by Micah Blount. Shelton singled to drive in Tichenor for what would be the game-winning run. Zach Tompkins (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN) followed with a double to right-center field, scoring Shelton. Clay Staton followed with a double to drive in Tompkins for the 4-1 final.

GAME TWO RECAP
The Purple and White scored 10 of their 12 runs in the first four innings and led 10-0. Trevecca added two more in the eighth before the Tigers plated their only two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

In the four-run first, Tyler Tichenor reached on a one-out bunt single. Micah Blount single and then the two Trojan base runners pulled off a double steal. Byron Shelton walked to load the bases and Zach Tompkins doubled to left-center field to drive in the first two of the game. Griffin Ganick (SO/Brentwood, TN) singled to score two more for a 4-0 Trojan lead after a half inning of play.

Trevecca scored their 12 runs on 17 hits and had three errors. Salem had six hits and no errors.

Tyler Tichenor (3-5) and Zach Tomkins (3-3) each collected three hits. Micah Blount (2-2) and Clay Staton (2-5) also had multi-hit games. Tichenor and Blount each scored three times and Tompkins drove in three. Blount, Tompkins, and Staton all hit a double. Bryson Shelton was 1-2 and scored twice, had an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. Tichenor had two more stolen bases and now has 99 in his career. Blount walked and had a stolen base.

Jon Newman picked up the win with a complete game. He had the shutout until the two-run Tiger ninth. Newman allowed just six hits and a walk while striking out five. Though he gave up two runs, they were not earned runs and his season earned run average is now 2.47 and has a 4-0 record.ÂÂ
