Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. – No. 20 Trevecca Nazarene University (6-4) dropped a non-conference baseball game, 12-6, at the University of Southern Indiana (4-3).

The Screaming Eagles connected for 24 hits in coming from behind for the NCAA Division II Midwest Region on Friday afternoon in the first game of the USI Invitational at the USI Baseball Field.

USI scored 12 consecutive runs after the Trojans scored four in the top of the second for a 4-0 lead.
Â
Southern Indiana used three consecutive hits to start the fourth inning scoring two runs. They ended up with eight hits in the fourth inning and sent 12 Screaming Eagles to the plate while pulling ahead 7-4 with seven runs in the inning.

Bryson Shelton (JR/Powell, TN) led off with a single and advanced to second and then third on a throwing error. Zach Tompkins (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN) reached on a hit-by-pitch and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Tyler Burns (SO/Tullahoma, TN) reached on an error, scoring Shelton. Wiseman tripled next, scoring burns and Tompkins. Ryan Arington (JR/Cincinnati, OH) singled on a bunt, scoring Wiseman for the fourth run.

USI added a run in the fifth and the seventh for a 9-4 lead.

USI added three in the eighth inning for a 12-4 lead.

Trevecca plated two in the top of the ninth, but fell 12-6. Ethan Harrison (FR/Erlanger, KY) reached on a pinch hit single to lead off the inning. With two away, Ryan Arington singled to score Harrison who had moved up on an earlier ground out. Patrick Reed (JR/Murfreesboro, TN) and Tyler Tichenor (SR/Centertown, KY) hit back-to-back singles moving up and scoring Arington. Â

The Trojans scored their six hits on nine hits and had two errors.

Bryan Smith (JR/Unionville, TN) took the loss and is now 1-2 on the year.

 Zach Tompkins hit his third double of the year. Carter Wiseman (SO/Hendersonville, TN) hit his third triple of the year with a run scored and two RBI. Ryan Arington was the only Trojan with multiple hits going 2-4 with a run scored, two doubles, had a stolen base.

Lucus Barnett (2-1) allowed the first four runs off five hits in eight innings of work for the win. He struck out five without giving up a freebie.

Trevecca plays Wayne State on Saturday morning at 10 in another meeting with a Midwest Region opponent. The Trojans conclude their weekend play with a rematch against the Screaming Eagles at 4 PM.Â
