Women's Basketball | Missouri-St. Louis Beats Trevecca in Pops Duncan Classic Opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (0-1) lost to the University of Missouri-St. Louis (1-0), 42-31, in the opener of the 11th Annual Pops Duncan Classic at the Trojan Fieldhouse.

Trevecca will face Drury University (1-0), the Panthers defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College (0-1) 75-72 in overtime. Kentucky Wesleyan will face Missouri-St. Louis at 5:30 following the Trojans and Drury game.

Missouri-St. Louis opened each quarter scoring the first points. The Tritons scored the first four points of the game, then the first six of the second quarter, the first eight of the third quarter, and the first two points of the fourth.

Trevecca responded to the 4-0 Triton lead in the first quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 7-4 lead. The teams went to the second quarter tied 12-12.

The Tritons pulled ahead16-12 at the start of the second quarter, but Trevecca closed the deficit to just two, 20-18, at the half. McKenzie Kilburn (FR/Summertown, TN) led the Trojans with seven first half points.

After three quarters the Tritons lead grew to eight (30-22) and hit 11 (34-23) early in the fourth. The Tritons held the same 11-point advantage as time expired.

McKenzie Kilburn scored a team-high seven points in her collegiate debut. Sarah Raby (SR/Lynchburg, TN) scored five and collected a team-high five rebounds. Adi Hale (SO/Lexington, TN) scored six and added four rebounds and a team-high two assists and three steals.

Trevecca hit 23.5% (12-51) from the field, 20% (3-15) from three-point range, and 36% (4-11) from the foul line. The rebound edge went to UMSL 42-29. The free throw lane is where the Tritons held the biggest advantage scoring with a 26-14 edge, but also outscored the Trojans 8-0 on second chance opportunities.   

Trevecca held UMSL to just 34% (17-50) shooting from the field. The Tritons missed all nine attempts from beyond the three-point line, but hit 8-of-9 from the foul line.
