TREVECCA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL | Records Fall as 2025-26 Season Comes to a Close in Semifinal Loss at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – When the Gulf South Conference announced their preseason poll for the 2025-26 women's basketball season, the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans were picked 11th out of 12 teams. That didn't seem tremendously out of place at the time, considering Trevecca finished 10th in the GSC in their maiden voyage in the league, Suffice it to say, though, that year one of the Doug Novak era was a resounding success.

Trevecca (18-11) wrapped up their 2025-26 slate on Thursday night, and with it their first season under Novak, in the GSC Championship semifinal where the fourth-seeded Trojans fell to the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers (28-4). The Chargers were the top seed in the Championship after having won the regular season title.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jordan Gillies got the night started with a bucket on Trevecca's first possession - just 15 seconds into the game - and the Trojans led several times early on. Late in the first frame, though, UAH used an 8-0 spurt to take a 14-10 lead with 3:18 to play. The Chargers pushed their six points in the final minute before a layup from Tatum Shaw cut the margin to 19-15 at the end of the first.

UAH stretched their margin out in the second frame. After Jayda Woods scored on the Trojans' first possession of the second frame, UAH scored five straight points to take a 24-17 lead. After the Trojans got a 3-point play from Gillies that cut the gap to 24-20, the Chargers answered with an 11-2 run to stretch their lead to 13 midway through the stanza. Trevecca went the final 3:58 of the half without a field goal, and at the break, UAH led 46-26.

In the second half, UAH did not stretch the lead significantly, but Trevecca was unable to close the gap. A 3-pointer from Gillies pulled Trevecca within 15 halfway through the period, but the Chargers stretched it back to 20 at 63-43 headed to the fourth. UAH led by as many as 25 in the final period, and UAH came home with the win 80-61.

THE TEAM
The Trojans made 24 of 60 (40%) shots in the game, and that included a 7-for-22 (31.8%) from long distance. At the charity stripe, Trevecca was 14-for-18 (85.7%), and the Trojans out-rebounded UAH 32-28. Each team had 32 points in the paint and 10 points off turnovers, but the Chargers scored 19 points off the bench, while Trevecca did not get any points from substitutes in the game.

THE PLAYERS
Gillies equalled a career high with 32 points in the game, she made 13 shots including five three pointers. Cheyenne Trotter was the only other Trojan in double figures in the game, and she had her 16th double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Trotter and Brianna Burgess each dished out a team-best four assists.

RECORD SETTING SEASON
Gillies and Tatum Shaw each made 60 three pointers on the year, a mark that ties them atop the single season made 3-point field goal list for the Trojans. Trotter set or tied six NCAA-era program rebounding records, and Gillies set a new NCAA-era mark with 119 assists. Novak also ranks third in wins among Trevecca coaches in their first season, trailing 22 for Karen Booker in 2022-23 and Gary Van Atta's 31 during the 2005-06 season.
