ÂÂ
Six teams advance to the region round. Those six teams will come from the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), G-MAC, and GLVC (Great Lakes Valley Conference). The GLIAC and GLVC each have an automatic qualifier. The final four will be selected out of the region rankings. TNU was ranked seventh in the Midwest Region last week. The G-MAC will have an automatic qualifier beginning next season.
ÂÂ
Zach Tompkins (JR/Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) homered and drove in three runs while John Bolton (SO/Nolensville, Tenn.) improved to 5-2 on the year with five strong innings.
ÂÂ
The top-seeded Trojans completed an undefeated league postseason run for the second straight year. They were 3-0 last year and 4-0 this season at the G-MAC tournament.
ÂÂ
TNU scored their 19 runs on 15 hits as six different starters recorded two hits or better. The Trojans nearly batted around the lineup twice in the top of the first inning as they scored 11 runs.
ÂÂ
Ohio Valley played the spoiler for several teams in the postseason bracket and finished the season with a 16-30 overall record as the G-MAC runner-up.
ÂÂ
G-MAC Player of the Year Hunter Newman (JR/Chapmansboro, Tenn.), Bryson Shelton (SO/Powell, Tenn. ), Clayton Nichols (SR/Franklin, Tenn.) and Tompkins each had three RBI, respectively.
ÂÂ
Tyler Tichenor (JR/Centertown, Ky) doubled to get the game started and singled in two runs in the first inning alone. The Trevecca offense chased OVU lefty starter Dakota Taylor (1-5) out after he was able to record one out.
ÂÂ
TNU was also able to draw three bases-loaded walks in the first inning while Shelton and Nichols drove in runs in their first plate appearances.
ÂÂ
The Fighting Scots answered in their first series of at-bats, scoring a pair of runs on a Tyler Proctor RBI double and a grounder through the left side of the infield by Logan Dan.
ÂÂ
Proctor would finish 2-for-3 with a run and RBI at the dish for OVU, completing an impressive conference tournament showing by the Fighting Scots' third baseman.
ÂÂ
The Trojans tacked on three more runs in the fifth as Micah Blount (JR/Birmingham, Ala.) singled home a run and Nichols drove in two with another single. Newman doubled and recorded a pair of RBI by drawing bases-loaded walks.
ÂÂ
Bolton fanned six batters while yielding two runs on six hits and finished off his fifth winning decision with four consecutive scoreless innings. Righties Mason Dunn (JR/Goodlettsville, Tenn.) and Ryan Arington (SO/Cincinnati, Ohio) cleaned up with scoreless sixth and seventh frames in relief.
