ÂÂ
The Trojans picked up their 9th win in their last 10 games and are 16-3 over their last 19 games. After falling 1-0 to Kentucky Wesleyan in their G-MAC opener, the Trojans have rolled off 15 straight in conference play and own a two game advantage (in the loss column) over second-place Alderson Broaddus University.
ÂÂ
Trevecca returns home on Friday and Saturday, for a pair of games each day, against Cedarville University (17-17, 9-7 G-MAC). The weekend series is the final home G-MAC series for the Trojans. The Trojans will honor their three seniors, Clayton Nichols (SR/Franklin, Tenn.), Justin Dailey (SR/Clarksville, Tenn.), and Michael Purcell (SR/New Johnsonville, Tenn.), during the weekend series.
ÂÂ
GAME ONE
Bryan Smith (SO/Unionville, Tenn) (6-0) became the third consecutive Trevecca pitcher to toss a complete game shutout against Ohio Valley. Smith also matched Michael Purcell and John Bolton (SO/Nolensville, Tenn.), the starters in game one and two against the Scots, with seven strikeouts in the game. Smith allowed just two hits and did not walk anyone.
ÂÂ
Carter Wiseman (FR/Hendersonville, Tenn.) was 3-for-3 with a run scored, a walk, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Wiseman now has 15 stolen bases on the year, third best on the roster. Tyler Tichenor (JR/Centertown, Ky) was 0-for-1, but walked three times and scored three times while picking up two more stolen bases. He leads the team with 18 on the year.
ÂÂ
Smith allowed a leadoff hit to Andrew Allen, but with help from his defense, stranded Allen at third. Smith didn't allow another Scot on base until the sixth when Charles Emery singled to lead off the inning. He was erased on a double play which was started off the bat of the very next Scot batter, Chris Perna. Smith got Allen, ironically, to strike out next to end the sixth. It was his seventh, and final, strikeout of the game. Smith retired the side in order in the seventh, all on ground balls, two to Nichols at short and the final out recorded on a ground out to Tichenor at second.
ÂÂ
Trevecca scored the only run they'd need in the bottom of the first. Scot starter Eric Schweitzer loaded the bases on walks, then after the first out was recorded on an infield fly rule out by Nick Kristinus (FR/Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Bryson Shelton (SO/Powell, Tenn. ) lifted one to the outfield to produce a run on a sacrifice fly. Tichenor scored the run after leading off the inning on a four-pitch walk.
ÂÂ
Cameron Boyett (JR/Rockvale, Tenn.), who worked behind the plate for the Trojans, had the only extra base hit for either team, a double. Boyett was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
ÂÂ
GAME TWO
The Scots did not let the first three games in the series alter their approach in the series finale. Tucker Hughes, the Scots starter, pitched a complete game and kept the Trojans scoreless through five innings.
ÂÂ
The Ohio Valley offense picked up a run off of Trevecca starter Jarred Jones (FR/Nicholasville, Ky.) in the fourth.
ÂÂ
Jones was strong, allowing just six hits and an earned run with two hits and four strikeouts.
ÂÂ
In the fourth Cody Morris doubled to left and Ian Sullinger singled an out later, moving Morris to third. Next it was Charles Emery singling to center, scoring Morris. It was the first run of the series for OVU.
ÂÂ
Ivey Starling (JR/Brentwood, Tenn.) came on to pitch for the Trojans in the sixth and pitched two nearly perfect innings. Starling allowed just one walk and had a strikeout in keeping the Scots off the board and giving the Trojans a chance to get the lead.
ÂÂ
Trevecca scored the game-tying run in the sixth. The run came on a lead off home run from Carter Wiseman.
ÂÂ
Ryan Arington (SO/Cincinnati, Ohio) was the next Trojan pitcher to shut down the Scots. He pitched the eighth inning and allowed just one hit and had two strikeouts.
ÂÂ
The game remained tied until the Trojans scored the go ahead run in their half of the eighth inning. With two out in the inning, Bryson Shelton tripled down the left field line. Ethan Hurt (SO/Pegram, Tenn.) singled to score Shelton and getting the Trojans the go ahead run.
ÂÂ
The run in the eighth put Arington in line for the win.
ÂÂ
The Scots kept the pressure on in the ninth, loading the bases on Trevecca reliever Mason Dunn (JR/Goodlettsville, Tenn.).
ÂÂ
The top of the ninth started with Tyler Proctor drawing a walk from Dunn. Andrew Allen reached on a hit-by-pitch. Max Brown reached on an error on his sac bunt, loading the bases with no outs on the board. Dunn induced a pop up to Tichenor at second that kept the bases loaded. Dunn got out number two on a strikeout of Cody Morris. Dunn then earned the save and the Trojan win by getting a ground ball to Tichenor off the bat of Logan Dan to end the game.
ÂÂ
Arington (1-0) picked up his first win and Dunn earned his first save of the year.
