Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Split with Quincy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca baseball team (6-7) split their doubleheader with Quincy University (3-2) on Sunday, March 8.

 

They grabbed the win in game one, 15-9, and fell, 4-8, in game two. 


The Trojans will be home again on Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m. to host Grand Valley State (5-4) in a single game. They will also play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14 against Hillsdale College (3-5) starting at 12 p.m. 




 

GAME ONE


In the second inning Quincy loaded the bases with a walk, an error, and a hit by pitch. Brynn Martinez capitalized with a two-RBI single, giving the Hawks a lead, 2-0. 



 

Ethan Hurt reached on a fielder's choice in the Trojan second, then stole his way to third where Micah Blount drove him home with a single.

 



Tyler Tichenor drew a walk, stole second, and advanced to third off a Tyler Burns ground out. Chad Sutton connected with a single to left field scoring Tichenor, tying the game at 2-2.

 




Meyer singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A Martinez double to left field scored Meyer for a 3-2 Quincy lead.

 




In the bottom of the fourth, Blount walked, advanced to third on a Ryan Arington double, then snuck home on a wild pitch, that moved Arington to third. 
Carter Wiseman walked and stole second. Tichenor singled to center driving in Arington and Wiseman. Trevecca led 5-3.

 

In the sixth, Arington and Wiseman walked before Burns hit a single to right field, scoring Arington again and moving Wiseman to third. Wiseman scored on a Hurt single to extend the TNU lead, 8-3.

 

In the seventh 


Cameron Boyett walked and scored off a Tyler Tichenor triple. 


Trevecca earned six more in the bottom of the eighth for a 15-3 lead.

 

Quincy matched that with six in the ninth.

 




Austin Sisk gained the win (2-0) after pitching five innings with three strikeouts and one walk. Quincy's Peterson took the loss (0-1). Bryan Smith started and pitched four innings with four hits and three runs allowed. Smith walked three and sat down four on strikes.

 

Tyler Tichenor was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI. Tichenor had his first triple of the year and his fifth stolen base. Hunter Newman hit his sixth home run of the year and was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Hurt was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, and two stolen bases.

 



Trevecca had 12 hits and one error. Quincy had 10 hits and three errors.

 




GAME TWO


The Hawks scored four runs, all unearned, in the first inning off of three hits and two Trojan errors. 




 

Carter Wiseman stole second, moved to third off an error by the catcher and scored on a wild pitch, all after getting hit by a pitch. Hunter Newman, also hit by a pitch, then advanced to second and third and then home, on wild pitches. Trevecca trailed 4-2 after one.

 




Both teams scored two runs in the second inning.


 First for Quincy, Wisdom scored on an error after reaching on a hit by a pitch. Hager reached with the error and scored off a Miles triple.




 

Micah Blount walked. Arington and Tichenor singled, moving Blount to third. Blount scored on a sac fly from Wiseman. Tichenor stole second before Newman hit an RBI-single that scored Arington, putting Quincy up 6-4 after two. 




 

The Hawks added a single run in the fourth and seventh for the 8-4 win.

 

Newman was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Tichenor was 2-for-4 with his seventh stolen base of the year.

 




Christian Lohr took the loss (0-1) while Quincy's Niebrugge improved to 2-0.


 Lohr allowed four hits, six unearned runs, and had one strikeout in his inning and a third of work.

 

Quincy had nine hits to Trevecca's five. Four errors were credited to TNU and one for QU.
