Box Score 2 JACKSON, Tenn. - Trevecca (26-14-1, 15-7-1 TranSouth) split the season series with No. 12 Union University (37-10, 23-5 TranSouth) after splitting today's doubleheader at Fesmire Field on the Union Campus. Union scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to take the opener 2-1, while Trevecca came from behind for a 9-7 win in the nightcap.
Game OneUnion scored a run in the bottom of the seconding inning for a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs were aided by two Trojan errors in the inning. Trevecca was held scoreless until they evened the score with a run in the top of the seventh.
Lacey Grimes reached on a one-out walk and
Tori Hulan came in to pinch run.
Caitlyn Bailey advanced Hulan to second on a ground out. After a walk to
Lauren Baker,
Kari Mason reached on a misplayed grounder. Hulan advanced to third and then scored on the error. Union bounced right back for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Alex Williams delivered a one-out single and moved to second on a walk to DeShuni Sanders. A wild pitch by Baker moved both runners up a base to second and third. Shelby Lamb followed with a fielders choice that scored Williams from third.
Trevecca had four hits from four different batters.
Lauren Baker was 1-for-1 with three walks.
Ansley Brantley and
Tori Hulan each has a stolen base for Trevecca. Each team had two errors in the game. Union had three hits. Both teams left a number of runners on base. Trevecca had eight and Union nine.
Both pitchers went the distance.
Lauren Baker (9-6) pitched 6.1 innings and allowed three hits, two runs - 1 earned, and fourth walks. Brooke Thomas (18-6) pitched all seven innings for the Bulldogs allowing four this one unearned run, four walks and had two strike outs.
Game TwoThe second game was witness to a lot more offense from both teams. Union scored two runs in the first and two in the third for a 4-1 lead. Trevecca scored one run in the top of the first and didn't score again until the fourth inning. Trevecca plated one in the fourth, three in the fifth for a 5-4 lead. Union tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-5 tie. TNU scored two in the sixth for a 7-5 lead, but UU tied the game at 7-7 with two of their won in the seventh. As the game went to extra innings, Trevecca scored two in the top of the eighth and held Union in the bottom of the inning for a 9-7 win.
Caitlyn Bailey hit the game winner in the top of the eighth inning when she delivered a two-out two-RBI single that scored
Lindsey Stephens and
Kelsey Kemp. Stephens and Kemp singled in the first two at bats for the Trojans in the eighth. They both moved up a base when Lacey Grimed grounded out for the second out of the inning.
The teams combined for 27 hits (Trevecca 15, Union 12) and 16 runs, but there was only one extra base hit. Breana Zeis hit a triple for the only extra base hit in the game. Trevecca had eight stolen bases in the game.
Ansley Brantley had three while
Kari Mason had two. Trevecca, despite scoring nine runs, left 13 runners on base. Union left six.
Natalie Papini (10-3) picked up the win for TNU with one inning of perfect work in the eighth. Kelly Robey (16-4) took the loss for Union.
Heather Shuler was 4-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Kelsey Kemp was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and RBI, and a walk. Brantley was 1-for-4 with a walk, three stolen bases, and a run scored.
Kari Mason was 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and a run scored.
Breanna Zeis, who had a RBI-triple in the first, was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBI.
Caitlyn Bailey was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBI.
The Trojans travel to Lyon College (12-32-1, 5-24 TranSouth) Saturday for a doubleheader at noon.
