Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trojan baseball team (11-13-1, 4-4-1 TranSouth) smacked five home runs in a 12-7 win over Blue Mountain College (18-14, 6-4) Friday afternoon in game one of a three-game weekend series at Jackson Field.
"Our guys are working hard at being more aggressive in hitters' counts," said Trevecca Head Coach Mike Lord. "And it paid off today."
Blake Rogers led the way for Trevecca, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, two runs, and a stolen base.
Matt Tidwell and
Luke Fennell added two-run homers, and
Michael Maxwell contributed a solo shot to the Trojan attack.
Mark Rayburn added three hits and an RBI, and stole his team-leading 14th base.
Starter
Justin Dailey (2-1) picked up the win, pitching 7.1 innings and allowing six runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Dakota Angell pitched the final 1.2 innings. Blue Mountain starter Jon Paul Barber (4-5) allowed eight runs on 10 hits in four innings to suffer the loss.
"Justin went out and ate up seven innings for our staff," added Coach Lord. "We needed a quality start from him, and that's exactly what he gave us."
The Trojans scored in all but two innings, scoring three times in each of the first two innings, single runs in the fourth and seventh, and a pair each in the fifth and eighth frames. Trevecca's offense finished with 14 hits, six of those for extra bases, while the defense played error-free baseball.
"This is a big series for us," added Coach Lord. "We need to keep it going all day tomorrow and get some good momentum going."
The series concludes with a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
