Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Bryan Lions (19-9) scored three times in the final two innings to come from behind for a 7-5 victory over the Trevecca Trojans (7-9-1) Tuesday afternoon at Jackson Field. The loss is the Trojans' fourth in a row.
The Trojans took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Nick Howell led off with a bunt single and scored on a triple by
Michael Maxwell.
Matt Tidwell followed with a single to left, scoring Maxwell.
The Lions scored an unearned run in the top half of the fourth to cut the deficit in half. Trevecca answered with two runs in the bottom half of of the inning, but it could have been more.
Luke Fennell walked to lead off the inning and
Justin Holland laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Fennell over to second.
Blake Rogers walked to bring
Caleb Knox to the plate with runners on first and second and only one out. Knox roped a double to deep left-center field that scored Fennell easily, but Rogers was caught in a rundown between third and home, ultimately getting thrown out trying to score. Knox did advance to third on the play, but there were now two out.
Matt Dobbins followed with a single up the middle to score
Jackson Nichols, who was running for Knox, but the inning ended when
Nick Howell grounded out to the mound.
A two-run homer by Tyler Latham in the top of the fifth brought the Lions within 4-3, but again the Trojans answered, pushing the advantage to 5-3 in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by
Chad McDaniel that scored
Mark Rayburn.
But that would be the last time the Trojans would score. Bryan scored once in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4, once more in the eighth to tie the game, and twice in the ninth to put the game away.
Codi Webb (1-1) took the loss in relief for the Trojans. Webb gave up four runs, three of them earned, on three hits in 3.2 innings. The junior righthander struck out four and walked three.
Ryne Rayburn got the start for Trevecca, and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits in five innings of work, with six strikeouts and just one walk. Jason Ridenhour (3-2), the fourth of five Lion pitchers, picked up the win and Adam Sanders notched his 10th save of the season.
Dobbins went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Howell also had two hits, going 2-for-5.
The final line scored showed the Lions with seven runs on nine hits with one error and eight runners left on base. The Trojans scored five runs on nine hits with three errors and stranded five runners on base.
The Trojans host #RV Campbellsville University (17-4) Wednesday at 2 p.m.
