Box Score NEW ALBANY, Miss. - The Trevecca baseball team (23-15, 11-3 TranSouth) pounded out 12 hits in a 12-1, five-inning victory in the opening game of its doubleheader with Blue Mountain College (12-21, 2-12) Saturday afternoon at Legion Field at New Albany City Park.
GAME ONE RECAPThe Toppers scored first, plating a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by catcher Dustin Lunn. But the Trojans tied it in the second when
Chad Reynolds reached on an error and eventually scored on a groundout by
Zach Polzin. The Trojans blew the game open in the third inning. With one out,
Edwin Borbon and
Jordan Foreman singled and
Chase Birdwell was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Matt Tidwell promptly cleaned the bases with a three-run double to deep left field to make it 4-1 Trojans. An RBI double by
Mitch McClay and an RBI single by Polzin capped the Trojans' scoring for the inning.
A six-run sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run single by
Luke Fennell, put the game away for the Trojans, invoking the run rule for the second straight game. Trevecca scored 12 runs on 12 hits, with no errors and three left on base. The Toppers scored one run on four hits, with one error and three runners left on base.
Tidwell went 2-4 with a double, three RBI, and two runs. Foreman and McClay added two hits apiece, while Fennell and Polzin each drove in a pair of runs. Tidwell, McClay, Borbon, and
Chad Reynolds all scored twice.
Craig Stem (8-1) got the win, giving up one run on four hits in five innings of work, with five strikeouts and two walks. Jon Paul Barber (0-2) took the loss for Blue Mountain.
