Belhaven Takes Pair From Trevecca

Box Score JACKSON, Miss. - The Trevecca Trojan baseball team (12-10, 1-2 TranSouth) dropped a pair of games to NAIA No. 12 Belhaven University (16-5) Wednesday afternoon, losing 10-4 and 2-0.

GAME ONE RECAP
The Blazers jumped on the Trojans early, scoring seven runs on four hits and a Trojan error in the first inning. The first six batters reached base, chasing starter Caleb Longshore, who was replaced by Blake Payton. Belhaven tacked on two more runs in the second inning, before the Trojans cracked the scoring column with a pair of runs in the third on RBI singles by Matt Tidwell and Mitch McClay. Trevecca plated two more runs in the fourth inning, on RBI singles by Jordan Foreman and Matt Owens, before the host Blazers finished the scoring with another run in the sixth.  

Trevecca scored four runs on nine hits-all singles-and committed one error, while leaving eight runners on base. Belhaven scored 10 runs on nine hits with one error, while also leaving eight men on base. Foreman paced the Trojan attack, going 3-4 with an RBI and a run.

Longshore (1-3) took the loss for the Trojans, giving up six runs on four hits and one walk. Payton pitched two innings in relief, giving up three runs on two hits, with a pair of strikeouts and a walk. Codi Webb pitched the final four innings, allowing one run on three hits, with one strikeout and two walks. Brandon McHenry (2-0) picked up the win for Belhaven, with Kiel Higginbotham pitching the final three innings to earn his first save of the season.

GAME TWO RECAP
The Trojans managed just three hits in the nightcap, singles by Foreman, Tidwell, and Luke Fennell. The Blazers scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, and three Belhaven pitchers kept the Trojan offense at bay, striking out four and not allowing a walk.

Justin Dailey (0-1) started and took the loss, allowing both runs on four hits, with three strikeouts and one walk. PJ Francescon and Michael Son each pitched an inning in relief. Jon Patino (2-1) pitched three innings in relief of Belhaven starter Nick Meekins to earn the victory, while Josh Clarke notched his fourth save.

The Trojans return to TranSouth conference play this weekend, when they visit No. 1 Cumberland (14-5, 3-0 TranSouth) for a three-game series. The two teams will play a single game Friday at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday at Noon.
