MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The Trevecca Nazarene University women's soccer squad continued their four match road trip on Saturday afternoon, and the Trojans did so by opening Gulf South Conference play at the University of Montevallo. The Falcons were picked to finish second in the league in the preseason poll, and on Saturday, they looked every bit as formidable as that would suggest. 

 

Trevecca (2-2-1, 0-1-0 GSC) found only two shots in the match, while Montevallo (5-1-0, 1-0-0 GSC) blasted 22, and the Trojans fell on the road by a count of 5-0. 

  

The meeting was the sixth all-time between the sides, with Montevallo now holding a 4-0-2 advantage. This was the third meeting at UM, where the Trojans are 0-2-1 against the Falcons. 

  

Montevallo broke the ice in the 11th minute. The Falcons' Ayla Ertekin scored the first goal of the day, firing a shot past Trevecca goalkeeper Penelope Charroin low into the center of the goal to make it 1-0 Montevallo. Karsyn Ross finished off a double-assist sequence - with passes from Katelynn Mott and Tessa Harrington  - to give Montevallo a 2-0 lead in the 40th minute, and that was the margin at halftime. 

 

UM's Lainey Farabugh scored a pair of second half goals - the first in the 57th minute on an assist from Ertekin, and the second in the 64th minute off a feed from Elsie Marquardt - and Hannah Payne added the final tally, an unassisted goal in the 78th minute, to provide the final score of 5-0.

Trevecca will wrap up their time away from the Hill on Wednesday, September 16, when they head to Huntsville, Alabama to take on the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers (3-2, 1-0 GSC). The Chargers opened their GSC Slate with a 1-0 win at West Alabama in Livingston on Friday.
