MONTEVALLO, Ala. — On the middle day of the 2025 Gulf South Conference men's and women's outdoor track and field championships, the Trevecca Nazarene University teams continued to battle on the track and in the field, but the star of the day was unquestionably a senior making her final appearances for the Purple and White in her home state of Alabama.
Campbell Johnson obliterated the program record in the women's heptathlon, outpacing the previous best mark in the multi by more than 400 points, setting a new mark of 3627 points. The previous record of 3,226 had stood for more than three years, and it was set by Hanah Sims at the Cumberlands (Ky.) Carnival in April of 2023. The record was joined by an effort in the 5,000-meter women's race from Hadar Biger that helped bring the Trevecca women's total to seven points - one behind Christian Brothers College entering the final day of competition.
Johnson capitalized on her strong start to the heptathlon on Wednesday with a trio of solid marks on Thursday to wrap the competition. Johnson posted the highest mark of anyone in the heptathlon competition in the javelin throw, where she launched the spear 34.53 meters, and she also took fourth in the shot put with a toss of 10.20 meters. In the final heptathlon running event, Johnson completed the 800-meter race in 2:30.96, and she used those performances to secure a point and an eighth place finish for Trevecca.
Biger also scored points for the Trojans' women on Thursday, as she claimed a sixth place finish in the 5,000-meter run. Biger capped her freshman season in the event with a time of 17:38.83.
Men's action was highlighted by a qualification for the 100-meter dash final, and a pair of personal bests in the 5,000-meter run. Zion Griffin posted a time of 10.89 in the 100-meter prelims, and he now advances to Friday's event final. The Trevecca junior finished second in his heat earning an automatic qualification into the final.
In the 5,000-meters, McCaden Selby and Anthony Kosinski each posted new personal best times - bringing the Trevecca total to nine personal bests and a program record through the first two days of competition. Selby crossed the line in 17:21.83, and Kosinski was just more than four seconds behind him in a time of 17:25.95.
Entering the Championship's last day, there are only two remaining field events for both men and women - the shot put and the javelin. On the track, the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays will be run, along with the men's and women's 1,500 meters, 800-meters, 400-meters, 400-meter hurdles, and the finals in the 100-meters, 100/110-meter hurdles, and the 200-meters.
