FRIDAY RECAP

Things got underway in Huntsville at the Rocket City Invitational, and the Trojans wasted no time in putting on a show in the 100-meter dash. On the men's side, Zion Griffin posted the seventh-best time in the preliminary heats, qualifying for the finals on Saturday with a time of 10.66 seconds. Not to be out-done, Shaniya Hudson made history in the women's race. She posted a new Trevecca record time of 12.65 seconds in the signature sprint race. 

As the day continued, other Trojans spent the afternoon setting new personal records. In Huntsville, six TNU women set personal bests in their events, while seven of the TNU men bettered their personal records. Three of the Trevecca men's athletes in the California contingent also hit personal records, bringing Friday's total to 16 personal records and a program best mark. 

In women's competition, Brenna Randall (100m - 14.27), Hailey Holloway (1,500m - 5:06.47), Hadar Biger (5,000m - 17:26.19), Sarah Arnold (5,000m - 19:44.56), and Brooklyn Rader (Hammer Throw - 23.43m) each set one personal record on the day, while Campbell Johnson set personal bests in both the shot put (10.31m) and the long jump (4.72m).

On the men's side, the bulk of the personal records were set in the 100-meter dash. Six different Trojans - Dayton Floyd (10.77), Leighton Varden (10.93), Carvarious Bowers (11.00), Andrew Ewing (11.23), Juan Catalan (11.45), and Braylen Hendrix-Collins (11.80) all posted their career-best times in the discipline, while Anthony Kosinski (1,500m - 4:38.92), Joel White (5,000m - 15:58.87), and John Dalton (16:13.37) each beat their personal record marks in other events.

THURSDAY RECAP

Six Trevecca athletes kicked off the weekend for the Trojans' men's and women's track and field teams on Thursday. The Trojans middle distance and long distance running contingent began the weekend at the University of La Verne Leopard Invitational, one of three meets spread across the country that the Trojans are competing in over the course of three days.

The Trojans had three women and three men competing in a total of five events - the men's and women's 800-meter run, the men's and women's 3,000-meter Steeplechase, and the men's 10,000-meter run. All three of the men set new personal records in their events.

Ximena Acosta and Hope Ilias got things started for the Trojans at the Leopard Invitational in the women's 800-meter run. Acosta finished the race in a time of 2:23.93, with Ilias following her just less than eight seconds later with a finishing mark of 2:31.81. 

Moments later, Harley Kirkpatrick got the afternoon going for the TNU men in the 800, and he clocked in with a time of 1:59.20 - nearly a half-second better than his previous best time in the distance.

Next up were the steeplechasers, and again the women went first. For Trevecca, this meant that Ashley Alsvig took to the track next, and she completed the race in 12:41.44. On the men's side, Jack Jaeger completed the 3,000-meter event in 9:53.93 - knocking more than a minute off his previous best time in the race.

Joshua Novotny rounded out the evening just before 8 p.m. locally. He took to the track for the 10,000-meter run, and the sophomore finished fourth in the event in a time of 32:00.00 - a new personal best time in the event.

SATURDAY

Action at the Rocket City Invitational and the Bryan Clay Invitational continues on Saturday with Trevecca slated to have another 35 entries in competition. Links to live results can be found in the weekend preview story here.
