Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Fall Victim to Big Inning in Loss at UAH; Home for Final Four Games Next Week

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - After a red-hot start to the Gulf South Conference season, the Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (28-17, 18-12 GSC) has cooled over the last four conference weekends. The Trojans have faced three of the tougher opponents in that span, with trips to West Alabama and the University of Alabama-Huntsville around a home weekend against Delta State, and now, heading into the final week of the regular season, the Trojans have to find a way to circle the wagons to build some momentum heading into the postseason.

A big inning against was the story on Saturday afternoon, as the Trojans allowed UAH (20-21, 15-15 GSC) to plate nine runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning, as UAH swept the series with an 11-8 win.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
UAH has now won three straight in the series after Trevecca had a five-game winning streak against the Chargers entering the weekend. UAH now holds a 12-9 lead in the all-time series, and UAH has won 12 of 14 meetings all-time in Huntsville.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first inning went by scoreless, but in the bottom of the second, UAH broke the seal with a two-out RBI single. That lead was short-lived, though.

In the top of the third, Cade Martin reached on an error, and one out later, Drew Bradley singled to put runners at the corners with two away. Noah Boughton followed with an RBI single that tied the game and brought Ethan Madison to the plate. Madison ripped his second extra base hit of the series, this one a double to left, and Bradley scored on the play to give Trevecca the 2-1 lead. Landon Rogers stepped in next, and he singled back up the middle to score Boughton and Madison, and suddenly, Trevecca was up 4-1.

Moses led off the fourth, and he bunted and reached on a two-base throwing error. Martin followed with a base hit that chased Moses home to increase the Trevecca lead to 5-1. Martin drove home another run in the top of the fifth with a two-out RBI base knock that chased Rogers home to push the margin to five momentarily before a CJ Carson homer for UAH that pulled the margin back to 6-2.

That homer signaled a major momentum swing. UAH tallied nine runs in the fifth inning off four different Trevecca pitchers, and what was momentarily a five run Trevecca lead turned into a 10-6 deficit heading to the sixth.

Madison picked up another RBI hit for the Trojans in the sixth frame, and Martin doubled to lead off the eighth and later scored on a wild pitch, but that was all the offense Trevecca was able to muster, as the Chargers completed the series sweep with the 11-8 win.
