CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The outdoor season got underway for the Trevecca Nazarene University men's and women's Track and Field teams on Friday, as they headed down I-24 to take part in the Lee University Invitational. The Trojans had 23 athletes compete in nine different events, and they took an event win, with a second athlete in first headed into the event finals.
Joshua Novotny took the win in the men's 10,000-meter run, and Campbell Johnson won the women's javelin throw. Four other Trojans set personal bests on the day.
Novotny was one of two Trojans who competed in the 10,000-meter run, along with Joel White. The sophomore from Pleasant View, Tennessee posted a time of 32:42.46, which was seven seconds clear of Sewanee's Jack Collins in second place. Johnson launched the Javelin 36.30 meters, nearly a full meter farther than Tennessee Wesleyan University's Lisa Schoen. The top nine individuals in the javelin will compete on Saturday in the finals.
Garrett Wilson and Hailey Holloway each posted personal bests in the 800-meter run. Wilson crossed the line in 1:59.00, and Holloway posted a time of 2:25.41. The Trojans also had two throwers set new personal best marks, as Landon Mason launched the hammer 45.47 meters to earn a spot in Saturday's final, and Nina Willoughby posted a mark of 14.49 meters in the javelin.
Caden Meeks (7th - 800m; 1:57.89), Holloway (9th - 800m; 2:25.41), Novotny (1st - 10,000m - 32:42.46), White (7th - 10,000m; 35:24.31), Mason (8th - Hammer Throw; 45.47m), and Johnson (1st - Javelin; 36.30m) all finished the day in the top-10 in their events.
The meet will conclude with more action on Saturday.
