LAKELAND, Fla. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has named Trevecca Nazarene University's Cade Martin the South Region Player of the Week and Ryan Sweeney the South Region Pitcher of the Week.

The honors come after both players were also recognized by the Gulf South Conference as Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, following Trevecca's 5-0 performance. The Trojans moved into sole possession of first place in the Gulf South with a 20-7 overall mark and 13-2 in GSC play. The Trojans were picked to finish eighth in the preseason GSC coaches' poll.

Martin produced runs in bunches last week, finishing with 10 RBI and nine runs scored to help the Trojans go 5-0. The junior reached base in all five games and produced at least one hit in four of the five games, hitting 5-for-18 (.278) at the plate, and slugged .833 with three home runs. He led Trevecca to a pair of wins at top-ranked North Greenville as he tallied five RBI and three runs scored. Martin belted two home runs in the two-game set and was a combined 3-for-8. The Trojans then swept Union in their GSC weekend series, with Martin scoring six runs and driving in five more runs. He added a double with a .435 on base percentage. He drew five walks.

Sweeney was credited with three saves as Trevecca went 5-0 on the week. The junior, who now has seven saves on the year, posted a 0.00 ERA and threw 4.2 total innings with four strikeouts. Sweeney notched a .133 opponent batting average, surrendering just two hits in 15 batters faced with no walks. He picked up back-to-back saves at No. 1-ranked North Greenville as hitters went 1-for-10. Sweeney then secured the series sweep for the Trojans in game three at Union to move into sole control of first place in the GSC standings.

Martin and Sweeney advance to the NCBWA National Player of the Week ballot, which will be announced Thursday, March 19.
