HARROGATE, Tenn. – As the Gulf South Conference baseball season enters its third weekend, the Trevecca Nazarene  University baseball team has continued to show they are ready to take a step forward in the GSC. The Trojans got outstanding efforts on the mount from two hurlers on Friday, and as a result, the Trojans won their series opener for the third time in 2026.
 
Trevecca (10-5, 6-1 GSC) won a pitchers' duel with the University of Montevallo (6-10, 1-6 GSC) as the Trojans scattered only five Falcons' heats over nine innings to take the 2-0 win.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES      
The Trojans and Falcons have met 19 times since 2013, and the Falcons lead the series 11-8 in that time. The Trojans have won three of the last five in the series, and eight of the last 12 meetings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca opened the scoring with two outs in the top of the first inning. After Montevallo hurler Zach Wyatt started the game with back-to-back strikeouts, Cade Martin belted his second home run of the season to give the Trojans the 1-0 lead. In the third, Landon Rogers ripped a one-out double, and two batters later he hitched a ride home on an RBI-single from Cade Moore to double the Trojans' lead.
 
Meanwhile, the Trojans' pitching staff controlled the day. It began with starter Jonah Smithson, who put together his best performance of the young season on the mound. The 6-3 senior right hander from Gallatin, Tennessee fired 98 pitches in seven shutout innings, and he scattered five hits and one walk. He fanned four Falcons in the game as well. He gave way in the eighth to Justin Lee, who was steady in the final two frames, as he faced only seven batters to nail down the save and preserve Trevecca's 2-0 shutout win.
