TREVECCA BASEBALL | Trojans Sweep Montevallo; Best Conference Start Since 2017

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team continued their red hot start to the 2026 Gulf South Conference season on Saturday, as they took their third straight series to start the season. The Trojans have won four of five weekend series so far this season - with the only series setback coming in the season's opening weekend.
Trevecca (12-5, 8-1 GSC) got stellar pitching again in game one of their double-header at the University of Montevallo (6-12, 1-8 GSC), as they won the game 4-1, and in game two, the Trojans completed the series sweep with a 8-1 victory. The 8-1 start to the conference season is the Trojans' best record through nine conference games since 2017 when they also posted an 8-1 start.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The Trojans and Falcons have met 21 times since 2013, and the Falcons lead the series 11-10 in that time. The Trojans have won five of the last seven in the series, and 10 of the last 14 meetings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
Caleb Webster got things going in the top of the first again, as he ripped a one-out double to left field. After a passed ball advanced him to third, Cade Martin singled Webster home to put Trevecca up 1-0.
The score remained unchanged into the top of the fourth. Trevecca's first two hitters went down on strikes, but with two outs in the inning, Jaxson Christ hooked a fly ball down the right field line, and it hooked around the foul pole for Christ's first homer of the season to double the Trojans' lead.
Christ struck again in the top of the eighth. The inning started innocently enough, as the first two Trevecca hitters were retired before Luke Dymond drew a two-out walk. That's when Christ followed with a line drive double into the gap to push the Trojans lead to 3-0. Miles Nelson then hit a ground ball that took a bad hop and ricochetted off the Montevallo shortstop for an RBI double to drive in Christ and put Trevecca ahead 4-0.
Logan Harrell gave the Trojans another outstanding effort on the mound to start the game. Harrell had to work for it as well - he had only one inning when he retired the Falcons in order - but he was up to the challenge. The righty from Hendersonville, Tennessee fired six shutout innings, and he yielded only six hits and two walks. Harrell also notched seven strikeouts.
Justin Lee entered in relief for the second day in a row, following Harrell to the bump in the seventh. He was effective again - though this time he did allow a run on a pair of eighth inning doubles - as he worked two innings before he was lifted for Ryan Sweeney who nailed down the save in the ninth.
GAME 2
The Trojans picked up the offensive pace in the top of the first inning of the series finale. Moore and Webster notched back-to-back singles, and after a passed ball moved them to second and third, Noah Boughton lifted a sacrifice fly to left that drove in Moore and put the Trojans up 1-0. Later in the frame, Christ and Nelson followed with consecutive RBI hits, and before they took the field defensively, Trevecca led 3-0.
Trevecca added on in the top of the third frame. Boughton led off with a walk, and Martin reached on an error to put runners at first and second with nobody out. Rylan Moses followed and laid down a bunt that forced a wild throw to first and allowed Boughton and Martin to score. Later in the frame, KC Anchors lifted a sacrifice fly that drove in Christ and pushed the Trojans' lead to 6-0.
Montevallo cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, but Trevecca answered in the sixth with RBI doubles from Moore and Webster to push the final arginine to 8-1.
In the 25 innings this weekend, Trevecca outscored Montevallo 14-2.
