NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Early offense was the order of the day for the Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team on Saturday afternoon. The day was a relatively dreary one, but the Trojans were unfazed, and it led to a series sweep in the first Gulf South Conference set of the season.

Trevecca (6-3, 3-0 GSC) raced out to an early 8-0 lead in the opening two innings, and that proved to be plenty to complete the sweep of the Auburn University-Montgomery Warhawks (3-8, 0-3 GSC), 8-2.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The Trojans and Warhawks have met 23 times since the 2003 season, and with the weekend sweep, the Trojans now lead the all-time series 12-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trevecca gave the ball to Logan Harrell in the series finale under overcast skies at Jackson Field, and the Trojans staked him to a large lead early. The first three batters the Trojans sent to the plate reached base, and with the bases loaded and no one out, Miles Nelson drove in a run with a groundout to put Trevecca up 1-0. Judson Ceyanes drew a bases loaded free pass later in the inning to double the Trevecca lead, and in the second, Trevecca broke the game open.

Trevecca scored six runs in the second frame, as they used four hits and an AUM error to take an 8-0 lead. Cade Moore singled to drive in a run, and with Nelson at the plate, Moore drew a throw from Will Passeau that went awry, and Rylan Moses trotted home to make it 4-0. Moore and Nelson each scored later in the inning, and Drew Bradley capped the rally with a two-out, two-RBI single to plate Ceyanes and Noah Boughton.

Meanwhile, Harrell put things on cruise control. The junior right-hander from Hendersonville tossed six shutout innings and gave up only three hits, and he fanned nine.

AUM was able to scratch across a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, but the Trojans cruised in with the 8-2 win to take the series sweep.
