NASHVILLE – For the second home date in a row. The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team made history at Jackson Field.
The Trojans (5-3, 2-0 GSC) erased a 4-run deficit in the back half of game one of a double-header against Auburn University Montgomery (3-7, 0-2 GSC), and the Trojans took game one in 13 innings. The Trojans then took the series with a x-x win in game two. The game one win was the 1,500th win in program history.
With the wins, the Trojans now have 393 wins in the NCAA Division II Era of the Program. The Trojans are the 4th GSC program to reach the 1,500 win threshold - joining Delta State, Union, and Valdosta State.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The Trojans and Warhawks have met 22 times since the 2003 season, and the series is now split evenly at 11 wins apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
Trevecca struck first in game one when Jaxson Christ knocked in Miles Nelson with a groundout to put the Trojans up 1-0, but multi-run innings from AUM in the fourth and sixth gave AUM a 5-1 lead.
Tyler Jenkins cut the deficit to 5-2 with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, and in the last of the eighth, Christ picked up his second RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and one out. Ethan Madison followed with a groundout that scored Noah Boughton to pull the Trojans within one at 5-4. AUM got a run in the top of the ninth, but the Trojans answered immediately.
Caleb Webster led off the bottom of the ninth with a triple, and one out later, Jacob Lester launched the Trojans' first home run of 2026 - a towering blast over the left field wall that squared things at 7-7 and sent the game beyond the scheduled distance.
The 10th, 11th, and 12th innings went by scoreless, but in the top of the 13th, AUM surged in front on a two out solo home run from Cannon Miller that put the Warhawks in position to take game one.
In the bottom of the frame, Webster drew a lead off walk, and free bases proved to be the order of the inning. After Webster stole second, Nick Cook was issued a free pass, as was Landon Rogers. Suddenly Trevecca had the bases loaded with only one out. Boughton bounced out to first to drive in Webster with the tying run, and Jenkins and Christ were both hit by a pitch to force in Cook with the winning run.
GAME 2
Lester picked up where he left off for the Trojans in game two. He launched a 2-run homer to left in the bottom of the first, and that helped ignite the Trojans offense. In the third, Bouton singled in Moore, and he and Miles Nelson later scored on a double from Jenkins. Christ capped the four-run frame with a sac fly to left as Trevecca opened a 6-0 lead. The Warhawks plated a pair in the top of the fourth, and Luke Dymond capped the scoring in the game with an RBI single in the fifth.
That proved to be more than enough for Spencer Wilkins.Wilkins, a senior right-hander out of Monticello, Georgia, was brilliant on the bump for the Trojans. He allowed only four hits in a seven inning complete game effort. He yielded only two runs, he walked one, and he fanned seven on just 88 pitches. He retired the first 10 batters of the game in order, and after AUM scored their only runs of the game, Wilkins set down 10 of the final 11 hitters AUM sent to the plate.
