Trevecca Baseball| Bats Can't Escape Cold in Season Opening Loss at GSW

AMERICUS, Ga. – With still two days remaining in the year's opening month, the Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team headed south to open their 2026 season. Unfortunately for the Trojans, the bats were chilled by the dipping temperatures, and the Trojans fell on Opening Day.

Trevecca (0-1) was unable to get the offense going, as the Trojans managed only two hits in their first game of the campaign, and they fell to the Georgia Southwestern State Hurricanes (1-0) 14-0 in seven innings.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES      
The series this weekend marks the first time in program history for the Trojans that they have battled the 'Canes.

HOW IT HAPPENED      
Trevecca's lead off man Cade Moore reached on an error to start the game, but three straight ground outs left him stranded at third, and in the bottom half of the frame, Georgia Southwestern cracked the scoreboard first.  Senior Spencer Wilkins retired the first two men he faced in the bottom of the inning, but a hit batsman with two outs in the frame set up a 3-run 'Canes Rally that set the tone for the afternoon. 

GSW scored at least one run in each inning in which they batted, and they held the Trojans off the base paths for the most part. Trevecca got a one-out double from Jacob Lester in the second inning, but the 'Canes retired the next seven men in order. Trevecca's next base runner was Noah Boughton - who drew a two out walk in the fourth frame. Caleb Webster was hit by a pitch in the sixth, and Drew Bradley chopped a two-out infield single in the seventh for Trevecca's final two runners of the contest, and the game ended early with Georgia Southwestern taking the 14-0 win.
