Trevecca Women's Soccer | Trojans Picked Ninth in 2025 GSC Preseason Coaches Poll

NASHVILLE - The Gulf South Conference released the 2025 GSC Preseason Women's Soccer Coaches Poll, All-Conference Team, and 2025 GSC Newcomer Watch list.

The Trojans are picked to finish in a ninth this season by the league coaches.

The poll and preseason team were determined by GSC's 13 head women's soccer coaches, who were not able to vote for their own team or student-athletes.

Trevecca placed two student-athletes on the 2025 GSC Newcomers Watch list. They are Cristina Escudero (Madrid, Spain / Murray State College - Kansas) and Kate Nelson (North Alabama).

Escudero scored eight goals last season for the Aggies. She added five assists for a 21-point season. She scored six goals with seven assists as a freshman, totally 19 points. The Aggies went 24-10-5 during her two years there. Finishing 9-6-3 in her sophomore campaign and 15-4-2 her freshman year.

Nelson played two years at North Alabama after a standout career at Fred J Page High School, playing for coach Nathaniel Clapp. Nelson was a key figure in the Patriots two State Championships in 2021 & 2022. She earned All-District and All-Region honors in 2021-2022, also winning the 2019 Player of the Year. She broke the record for most goals scored in a season her junior year while setting up the most assists her senior year.

LOOKING BACK AT THE 2024 TROJANS

Trevecca, picked to finish ninth the season, finished their first season in the GSC with a 4-8-3 mark overall and 3-6-3 in league play.

TNU opened the 2024 season with a 2-0 non-conference road win over Young Harris College. The Trojans dropped their next three, the first two being non-conference games. The third, was a 1-0 loss at UAH in their GSC debut. The Trojans played even, 2-2, in their GSC home debut against the Univ. of West Alabama. The team broke through for a GSC win on the road at Auburn Montgomery.

They returned home and showed their metal with a 1-1 tie against then No. 15 Univ. of West Florida. The Trojans couldn't follow that up and had a stretch of five games without a win, going 0-3-2. The team did add two more wins over their last four, but it wasn't enough to get them in the postseason championships. The team finished tenth overall, just outside reaching the postseason.

A PEAK AT THE 2025 TROJANS

The Trojans head into the 2025 season with Matheus Mello as the new head coach, looking to build on last year's results and move up the GSC table.

The Trojans open year two in the GSC with a non-conference match versus the Univ. of Tampa (Sept. 4) in a region match up. The next two matches, also non-conference tilts, sees Young Harris College (Sept. 9) return the game in Nashville and former Great Midwest rival Kentucky Wesleyan visits for senior night on Sept. 11 at Trevecca. The final non-conference match is at Carson-Newman University on Sept. 13.

The conference slate begins in Livingston, Alabama when the Trojans face the Tigers of the Univ. of West Alabama on Sept. 19. The first home GSC game is Sept. 21 when the Chargers of Alabama Huntsville visit at 2 PM. It is the first of three consecutive matches on the Hill. AUM (Sept. 26) and Valdosta State (Sept. 28) are next.

The Trojans finish the season with a pair of home matches against Christian Brothers (Oct. 31) and Union University (Nov. 2).

2025 GSC WOMEN'S SOCCER PREVIEW

For the second straight year, West Florida is the favorite in the 2025 Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Poll, as the league also announced its preseason all-conference team and newcomer watchlist.

After sweeping both the regular-season and tournament titles last year, West Florida earned all 12 possible first-place votes, leading the preseason rankings with 144 points. Montevallo, last season's regular-season and tournament runner-up, was picked second with 132 points and one first-place vote.
