Trevecca STUNT | Trojans Win Two of Three at MAWC Championships, Advance to Saturday

LEXINGTON, Ky.The Trevecca Nazarene University STUNT team (26-3), the second seed at the 2025 Mid America West Conference Tournament, advanced with wins twice on Friday, but lost their third game in the double elimination tournament.

 

First, the Trojans won 23-0 over seventh seed Northern Kentucky University (1-19) inside Historic Memorial Coliseum on the campus of the University of Kentucky. 

 

Then, the Trojans dispatched the third seed UT Martin (9-5), sending the Skyhawks, who defeated fifth seed Central Arkansas (4-13), 24-0, earlier in the day, to the losers bracket with a 20-12 victory. 

 

The host and top seed, University of Kentucky, dominated the game with the Trojans, sending the second-seeded Trojans to the loser's bracket with a 23-5 win. This is the third meeting all-time between UK and Trevecca in STUNT. Trevecca scored two points in each of the first two meetings, meaning today's five points exceed their total in the first two meetings.

 

MAWC GM 3 Recap

Trevecca shutout Northern Kentucky 23-0, nearly posting a perfect score in the shutout. The only possible point the Trojans missed was in the first quarter when they scored three of a possible four points. They scored four in the second and third quarters, leading 11-0 going to the fourth. The Trojans were perfect in the fourth, maxing out with 12 points.

 

MAWC GM 5 Recap 

Trevecca took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter, but the Skyhawks nearly matched the Trojans in the second. Trevecca outscored UT Martin 4-3 in the second and lead 7-4 at the half. Trevecca upped their lead to 10-4 with a 3-0 advantage in the third. Trevecca secured the win with a 10-8 advantage in the fourth, holding off a strong performance by UT Martin.

 

MAWC GM 9 Recap 

The Wildcats were nearly perfect, scoring 23 of a possible 24 points. They scored a maximum of four points in the first three quarters for a 12-3 lead. Trevecca scored a point in each of the first three quarters and two in the fourth. UK scored 11 of a possible 12 in the fourth.

 

On Saturday the Trojans face the winner of GM 10, which is scheduled for 11:30 AM. In that game, #3 UT Martin will face either #5 Missouri State or #4 Mercyhurst. Those two play in GM 9 at 10:00 AM.

Trevecca, the only non-NCAA Division I team in the conference, is ranked No. 5 in this week's College STUNT NCAA Division II poll, the highest ranking for the program during its first two seasons fielding a team.

 

The Trojans went 18-9 overall in their first season last year and were 9-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season, earning them the No. 1 seed in the G-MAC Championships. The team advanced to the College STUNT NCAA Division II National Championships in their first season. The team reached a No. 6 national ranking last season.

 

The Trojans finished the regular season 24-2 overall and 5-1 in MAWC league play, making them 42-11 overall and 14-2 all-time in conference play.

 

There are a total of seven teams competing in the double-elimination championship, which concludes on Saturday.

 

Kentucky (24-1) earned the top seed for the championships and earned a first-round bye.

 

MAWC Action begins Friday afternoon and starts again on Saturday morning with the 2025 MAWC STUNT Championship game is set for 2:30 CT (Game 12) on Saturday.

 

An "if necessary" game would follow if the undefeated team loses Game #12.

 

STUNT is a head-to-head competition between two teams that focuses on the technical and athletic aspects of cheer. It is one of the fastest-growing female sports in the United States.
