NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (8-16, 6-9 GSC) took on the nation's top ranked team, North Greenville University (23-6, 10-5 CC), at Jackson Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Trailblazers beat the Trojans, 12-3.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Before this series, the Trailblazers and Trojans had not played for nearly 20 years. NGU swept TNU during the 2006 season, a three-game series played in Nashville. NGU holds a 5-0 all-time series lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NGU 12, TNU 3
Trojan starter
Logan Harrell got out ahead of the Trailblazers in the first, allowing just a single hit to open the game. Trevecca picked up right where it left off yesterday with a one-out home from
Joey Parliment to grab the early lead. NGU answered with a two-run bomb in the second to give the visitors their first lead of the afternoon. A one-out single in the third made it 3-1 NGU through three complete.
NGU left three on base in the fourth while the Trojans went down in order before a two-run fifth inning. A leadoff double from
Brady Maciak started things off before
Noah Boughton tripled him in. Boughton scored later in the inning off a fielder's choice to tie things up, 3-3. Both sides were quickly retired in the sixth before things turned south for Trevecca.
A seven-run inning by the nation's top ranked team sealed the victory. The explosive inning culminated in a three-run home run, making it 10-3. NGU added two more insurance runs in the eighth and ultimately held on for the 12-3 win.
