CLINTON, Miss. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (8-17, 6-10 GSC) jumped back into Gulf South Conference play against Mississippi College (19-9, 11-5 GSC), at Frierson Field on Friday afternoon.
The Choctaws beat the Trojans, 13-3 in seven innings.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Today's game was the first ever meeting between the two schools in baseball.
HOW IT HAPPENED
MC 13, TNU 3 – F/7
Two of the first three Trojans reached base in what turned out to be a promising first innings for Trevecca. A sacrifice fly from
Cole McCallum plated two runs before Trojan starter
Nick Judd even took the mound. Judd pitched a solid two innings before the Choctaws got to him in the third. A six-run frame for the hosts set up what would be a long day defensively for Trevecca.
Mississippi College used a two-run homer in the fourth to take an 8-2 lead before Trevecca scored its final run of the day. It was McCallum again who created the offense, this time reaching off an error by the second baseman. MC quickly got the runs back, though. A five-run bottom of the fifth set the stage for a run-shortened afternoon. Back-to-back RBI doubles followed by a three-run home run made it 13-3, Choctaws. MC pitchers faced the minimum Trevecca batters in the sixth and seventh to hang on for the win.
