Trevecca Baseball | Blazers Take Series GSC from Trojans

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (4-8, 2-4 GSC) dropped a pair of games on Saturday, concluding a three-game Gulf South Conference set with Valdosta State University at Billy Grant Field.

Valdosta State (5-8, 4-1 GSC) shutout the Trojans 8-0 in Saturday's opener and then rallied for a 6-5 win the series finale.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The Trojans and Blazers had never met before in baseball, the Blazers now lead the series 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – VALDOSTA STATE 8, TREVECCA NAZARENE, 0

The Blazers handled the Trojans in game one on Saturday, shutting out the Trojans 8-0 on four hits. The Trojans didn't get a hit off Blazer starter Hunter Booth until there was one away in the Trojan fifth. Brady Maciak collected the first hit. He was the only Trojan baserunner until there was one away in the seventh. Maciak also reached on a walk in the second. The only serious Trojan threat came in the seventh when they loaded the bases with two away.

 

The Blazers scored a run in the bottom of the first and made it stand up, but they added a run in the fourth and three in the fifth before chipping in a run in the seventh and two in the eighth.

 

GAME TWO – VALDOSTA STATE 6, TREVECCA NAZARENE 5
Trevecca took a 1-0 lead in the second game of the day and series finale. The Blazers broke through with a five-run fourth and looked to be on the way to the sweep. The Trojans rallied with a three-run sixth and tied the game at 5-5 with a run in the seventh.

 

Joey Parliment drove in the run in the first with a single, scoring Josh Griffin. In the sixth, Abbott Lawrence hit a three-run homer, scoring Cole McCallum and Luke Dymond. Parliment struck again with a solo homer in the seventh.

 

But, the Blazers walked it off with a run in their half of the ninth on a SAC fly.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
GAME ONE

The Blazers picked up 13 hits on the day.

Seven different Blazers produced a hit, their top five in the order had at least two hits.

Brady Maciak reached base three times with a hit, walk, and hit-by-pitch.

Jonah Smithson (1-2) took the loss after pitching the first 4.1 innings.

 

GAME TWO
Joey Parliment went 4-5 with a run scored, two RBI, and a homer.

Josh Griffin went 2-4 with a run scored.

Abbott Lawrence went 1-4 with a run scored, three RBI, and a homer.

Logan Harrell (1-1) took the loss with 3.1 innings of relief. Harrell struck out three and allowed just two hits and two walks, but didn't allow an earned run.


NEXT ON THE DIAMOND 
The Trojans face Lincoln Memorial University (6-5) in Harrogate, Tenn. on Tuesday at 2:00 PM. LMU owns a 9-2 edge in the series during the D2 era.

 

The Trojans host the University of Montevallo (9-5, 4-2 GSC) on Friday (3:00 PM) and Saturday (1:00 / 4:00 PM) for the home Gulf South Conference opener. Montevallo owns a 9-5 lead in the D2 era in baseball.
