MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (3-5) opened its first-ever Gulf South Conference series at the AUM Baseball Complex on Friday afternoon.
Trevecca fell to Auburn University Montgomery (4-5) 4-3 and finished up the doubleheader with an 11-2 win over the Warhawks.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The Warhawks command a 11-8 all-time advantage in the series since 2003.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
The first game of the day quickly settled into a pitcher's duel as just three over the minimum was faced through the first three innings. The Trojans broke through in the fourth, however, as
Cole McCallum singled through the left side to score
Joey Parliment.
Luke Dymond then had a sacrifice fly to bring in
Brady Maciak and it was 2-0 Trevecca. Another quiet frame ensued in the fifth before both sides tagged a run home in the sixth.
Alex Fernandez scored for Trevecca off a wild pitch and RBI single by the Warhawk six hitter made it 3-1 Trevecca. Things got out of hand in the eighth, though as Trevecca's lead evaporated. A pair of wild pitches and a ground out RBI gave the Warhawks just enough of an edge to win, 4-3.
