NASHVILLE – Fred Bailey, a freshman guard on the Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team, has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week for the week ending Sunday, November 23, 2025. It is the second consecutive week the Pope John Paul II product has earned the honor.
The six-foot-two Hendersonville native averaged 20.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He scored 41 points in just 45:38 of action during the week and shot an impressive 76.2% (16-21) from the field.
Bailey, who played for Trevecca men's basketball alum Charles Wade at JPII, helped the Trojans to a 2-0 week.
In a 98-75 win at Tusculum, he shot an extraordinary 84.6% (11-13) from the field, scoring 27 points in 21 minutes of play.
He opened the week with a double-double—14 points and 10 rebounds—in a 99-66 win over Oakwood.
The JPII product also helped TNU set a new school record for field-goal percentage in the Tusculum game (71.4% / 35-49).
On the season, the freshman leads the team in scoring at 16.8 points per game. He is also averaging 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 64.9% from the field and 77.3% from the free-throw line.
The Trevecca men's basketball team is off to a 3-1 start under first-year head coach Nate Moran. The Trojans head to Jackson, Tennessee, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 7:30 p.m. for a matchup with Lane College. The Dragons are 1-1 on the season. This game is set to be the first known meeting between the two schools in men's basketball.
The Trojans, picked eighth in the GSC preseason coaches' poll, open Gulf South Conference play when preseason No. 10 Auburn University at Montgomery (1-2) visits on Thursday, December 4, at 7:30 p.m. The Warhawks have three games between now and their trip to Trojan Fieldhouse. AUM finished 9-18 overall and 6-16 in GSC play last year. The Trojans, who won both meetings a season ago, hold a 2-1 all-time edge. AUM won the first all-time meeting during the 2006-07 season.
Trevecca hosts preseason GSC favorite the University of Montevallo (1-2) on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 4:00 p.m. The first-ever meetings between the two programs in men's basketball came last season, with each team winning on its home court.
The Falcons finished last season 20-11 overall and 15-7 in league play. They were the No. 3 seed in the GSC Championships, advanced to the semifinals, and received an at-large bid to the NCAA South Region Tournament.
