Trevecca Softball | Ben Tyree is 2024 Great Midwest Coach of the Year; Fifth Time

AKRON, Ohio – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced its annual awards for the 2024 season on Wednesday afternoon, and head coach Ben Tyree was selected as conference Coach of the Year.

Tyree, who is in his 16th year leading Trevecca softball, claims his sixth Great Midwest Coach of the Year honor.

Tyree, who holds the most wins in Trevecca history and has more Great Midwest Conference wins than any other coach in league history, guided the Trojans to a 41-11 (23-3 Great Midwest) regular season record and a sixth regular season title.

The 41-win regular season marks the fifth Tyree-led team to earn 40 or more wins in a season and is just the third time the Trojans have reached the marker in the NCAA era.

The veteran coach owns eleven 30-win seasons, eight in the Div. II Era. His teams have won the regular season conference championship nine times and the postseason conference tournament six times.

Fifteen of his 16 seasons have produced 21 wins or more, not including the 2020 season, which was shortened due to COVID-19. Otherwise, the Trojans went 15-3 that season and were ranked #10 nationally before the pause in competition.

Tyree is a nine-time Coach of the Year selection.

The TranSouth Athletic Conference named him the TSAC Coach of the Year twice (2010, 2011).

The NCCAA Mid-East Region Coach of the Year went to Tyree in 2012.

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) continued the trend of naming Tyree the coach of the year six times (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2021, and 2024).
