Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (6-6) was swept by the University of Illinois-Springfield (9-4) at the UIS Baseball Field on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The Trojans and Prairie Stars battled for the first time in baseball history last season at Belmont's Rose Park. After today's losses, the Trojans trail the all-time series 5-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
After a scoreless first for the Trojans, the Prairie Stars got to Trojan starter
Caleb Marks early with a four-run inning. A fielder's choice and an RBI ground out allowed two runs to score for Trevecca in the second, cutting the deficit in half, 4-2. RBI doubles off the bats of
Josh Seiler in the fourth and
Cole McCallum in the fifth tied the game at 4-4 through six innings.
Trevecca briefly enjoyed a one-run lead in the seventh after a bases loaded hit-by-pitch scored Josh Griffin before UIS got the run back in the bottom half of the inning.
The Prairie Stars walked it off in the bottom of the ninth after a SAC bunt set up runners on second and third with just one out. A ball sent to center field gave UIS the 6-5 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE
* Haven Mangrum was 2-5 and had one RBI.
* Caleb Marks started and went seven innings allowing five earned runs and scattered six hits and two walks while striking out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
The Prairie Stars scored a run in each of the first two innings before the Trojans got to UIS starter Jacob Newman in the fourth.
Cole McCallum hit a two-run homer to left field to jump start the four-run frame.
Carter Warner drew a bases loaded walk to allow
Frankie Carreras to score while
Haven Mangrum had an RBI groundout to score
Roland Ryan. UIS pecked off a run in the fifth to make it a 4-3 game.
Josh Griffin singled to right field in the sixth to score Warner and give the Trojans a 5-3 lead. The bottom half of the frame turned out to not be so friendly to Trevecca. A six-run inning for UIS turned this around and the Trojans only managed to get one run back in the seventh to fall 9-6.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO
* Josh Griffin was 3-3 scored a run and had one RBI.
* Spencer Wilkins started and went 5.2 innings allowing two earned runs and scattered 11 hits and no walks while striking out seven.

The Trojans prepare to host the University of Alabama-Huntsville (12-4) for a midweek game on Tuesday, March 5. The first pitch with the Chargers is set for 3:00 p.m.
