NASHVILLE – In back-to-back weeks, the Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team landed a Gulf South Conference Player of the Week selection as
Reese Payne was tabbed the league's Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Payne, a junior from Springfield, Tennessee, collected 24 blocks (2.18 p/s) this week adding to her Gulf South leading block total of 69.
The junior had nine kills and 13 blocks in a four-set road win at Union, the Trojans' first-ever Gulf South win.
The middle blocker had 13 kills and six blocks while hitting .440 in a four-set win over Montevallo, helping the Trojans to a 2-1 start in their first Gulf South season.
On the week, she hit a team-leading .358 with 31 total kills (2.82 p/s) including nine in a three-set loss to (RV) Alabama-Huntsville.
Payne set the Trevecca single season record with 99 blocks last season, she has 69 blocks this season and is averaging 1.35 blocks per set, which would be a Trevecca record.
