Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's soccer team (0-1-0) opened the 2023 season a 2-1 non-conference loss at the hands of the University of Alabama in Huntsville (1-0-0) on the Hill. It is the first match in the Nathan Harrell era at Trevecca.
 
The Chargers, a member of the Gulf South Conference, hold a 2-1-1 edge in the all-time series. The teams tied last year (2-2) in Huntsville and Trevecca's win in the series came in 2021, a 3-2 win in Nashville.
 
Trevecca scored first when University of Southern Indiana transfer Peyton Wilkinson scored first career goal in Purple and White. Wilkerson found the back of the nets on an unassisted goal at 18:19 of the first half. 
 
Trevecca took the 1-0 lead into the intermission. Bailie Fiore put up two first half saves to pace the Trojan defense.  
 
A foul by the Trojans (Allie Windom) at 46:21 led to a penalty kick for the Chargers, Maialen Mera Torres converted the opportunity tying the match 1-1.
 
Both teams worked the ball on the opponent's end of the pitch early on in the second half with minimal chances. 
 
The visiting Chargers flipped the field late in the period for one more push toward the Trojan goal and Jayla Gillespie scored what turned out to be the game winning goal at 88:30. The Trojan could not threaten for a chance at the equalizer over the final 90 seconds and took the 2-1 loss.
 
Jenna Rehm was in goal in the second half for Trevecca and collected two saves while allowing two goals.
 
The Trojans return to action Saturday, September 2 (12 PM) against another Gulf South foe in the University of Montevallo Falcons (1-0). The Eagles knocked off Great Midwest member Kentucky Wesleyan, 6-0, tonight. 
 
The Trojans and Eagles have played twice previously in the NCAA D2 era, the Eagles lead the series 1-0-1.
