Trevecca Baseball | Chase Sain Reaches 100 Wins As Head Coach of Trojans

NASHVILLE- Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (28-18, 21-9 Great Midwest) began its final home series against Tiffin University (15-31, 7-22 Great Midwest) and swept the doubleheader. Winning game one 7-4 and game two 4-2 (seven innings). The game one win gave Chase Sain his 100th win as the Trojan's head coach. Sain is 101-46 overall in less than three seasons as Head Coach and is 66-19 in conference play. 

In addition to the memorable win for Chase Sain, it secured the Great Midwest South Division title for the Trojans, securing one of the top two seeds in the conference tournament next week. 

The Trojans also gained word today that they are ranked eighth in the first NCAA Division II Midwest Region ranking.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The Trojans have won six of the last night in the series and have a 7-5 edge all-time versus the Dragons. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE:

Tiffin struck first with a single run in the top of the first inning. But the Trojans responded with a four-run first inning to take the lead. Joey Parliment scored off a Frankie Carreras ground out, then Bryant Goolsby hit a two-run home run that also scored Jacob Lester to make it 3-1. Then a Josh Griffin solo home run into left field made it 4-1. 

The Trojans got going again in the bottom of the third inning when Shawn Wallwork scored on a David Milam sac fly. Then in the fifth inning, David Milam hit a two-RBI single up the middle to score Frankie Carreras and Josh Griffin

Tiffin got their offense going in the latter half of the game as they began to chip away at the Trojan's lead, adding a run in the sixth and two runs in the eighth to make it 7-4. But Trojan pitcher James Dickson and the Trojan outfield slammed the door shut on a potential comeback in the ninth inning.

GAME TWO:

The Trojans tallied a run in the first and second innings to start the game. Joey Parliment started the scoring with a solo home run. Then in the second, Henry Mosley scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. 

In the top of the third, Tiffin got on the board with a single run to cut the Trojan's lead in half. However, the Trojans weren't deterred, as Bryant Goolsby scored on a sac fly in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1. Then in the fourth, Joey Parliment hit his second solo home run of the game to give the Trojans a 4-1 lead.

Tiffin scored a single run in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 4-2. But Trojan pitcher Jack Keele struck out two batters, and Henry Mosley made a diving catch for the third out to seal the win for the Trojans.

  • Joey Parliment went 2-2 with two home runs, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • David Milam went 1-2 with an RBI. 
  • Henry Mosley went 1-3 with a run scored. 
  • Jack Keele (7-2) allowed only two runs on seven hits while striking out six batters in seven innings pitched.

UP NEXT

The Trojans will wrap up the regular season on Friday at 10:00 AM against Tiffin University for Senior Day on the Hill. The games have been moved up due to inclement weather.
