Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Continue Hot Streak; Sweep Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- Trevecca Nazarene University baseball (13-13, 8-4 Great Midwest) wrapped up their four-game series at Lake Erie College (4-23, 3-9 Great Midwest), winning in game three 4-3 (seven innings), then they won in game four of the series 8-2 for the four-game sweep.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The Trojans took the all-time series lead 11-6 after sweeping last year's and now this year's series. The Trojans have now won eight in a row against Lake Erie.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

GAME THREE:

The Trojans continued their momentum from yesterday's wins into game three when Josh Griffin hit a two-run home run that also scored Joey Parliment to go up 2-0 early in the first inning. Lake Erie cut the Trojan's lead in half in the third inning on a solo home run. 

Shawn Wallwork responded in the fifth inning with a solo home run of his own before Josh Griffin got home on a wild pitch to extend the Trojan's lead to 4-1. 

Running out of time, Lake Erie pushed back late as they cut the score to 4-3 late in the sixth inning. But the Trojan's outfield and James Dickson would not allow a run in the final frame as Lake Erie left two on base in the seventh inning to seal the win for Trevecca.

GAME FOUR:

Lake Erie struck first in the second inning with a two-run home run. Then in the third inning, Joey Parliment got the Trojans on the board with a solo home run to cut it to 2-1.

The Trojans then took control of the game in the fourth inning. Roland Ryan started things off with a solo homer to tie the game. Then Andru Becker reached home on a sac ground out from Jacob Lester. Frankie Carreras and Braden Reece later scored on errors by the Storm. Then Joey Parliment made it 6-2 when we scored on a wild pitch by Lake Erie.

After a pair of scoreless innings, the Trojans added a pair of runs in the seventh inning when Andru Becker and Braden Reece scored on a Jacob Lester two-RBI single into left field to put the Trojans up by six runs and seal the game. 

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES GAME THREE:

  • Josh Griffin went 2-3 and had a home run while batting in two runs and scoring two runs himself.
  • Shawn Wallwork also tallied a homer and an RBI and scored one run.
  • James Dickson was credited with his first save of the season.
  • Caleb Marks (3-2) allowed three runs on three hits while striking out nine batters in 6.1 innings pitched.

Trevecca hosts Lee University (18-14) on Tuesday, April 4, at 5:00 PM at Jackson Field.

The next home Great Midwest series is Easter Weekend when Kentucky Wesleyan College visits for a four-game series April 7-8. TNU is 2-9 in the series with the Flames in the NCAA era.
