Trevecca Baseball | Carreras Hits Walk Off; Trojans Split With Findlay

NASHVILLE- Trevecca Nazarene University baseball (23-17, 16-8 Great Midwest) hosted the University of Findlay (21-20, 12-12 Great Midwest) and wrapped up their four-game series and fell in game three 2-1 (seven innings), then won 12-11 in game four.

The series is now 7-7 following the season series split.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME THREE:

In game three of the series, Findlay was the first to score as they tallied a solo home run in the top of the second inning. The Trojans responded when Josh Seiler scored in the third inning off a Shawn Wallwork RBI single to tie the game up at 1-1. However, the Oilers retook the lead with a single run in the top of the fourth inning. 

The Trojans struggled to capitalize on the hits they managed, as they tallied only one run in game three. Trevecca outhit Findlay 7-4 but couldn't get their offense going. Lost in the fray was a great pitching effort by Caleb Marks, who only allowed two runs on four hits while striking out seven batters in six innings pitched.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME FOUR:

In the final game of the series, Findlay tallied the first run again in the second inning. The Trojans matched them in the third inning when Josh Seiler brought Josh Griffin home on a sac fly to tie the game at 1-1. 

The Oilers returned to work and scored twice in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Not to be deterred, the Trojans began to take over the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Shawn Wallwork hit a solo home run. Then Henry Mosley hit a two-run homer, scoring Logan West to make it 4-3. 

The Trojan's surge continued into the fifth and sixth innings when Braden Reece hit a two-RBI triple to score Shawn Wallwork and Frankie Carreras and make it 6-3. Then Reece scored off a Henry Mosley RBI double. In the sixth inning, Joey Parliment reached home on a Frankie Carreras sac fly, then Jacob Lester was brought home on a Shawn Wallwork RBI single. Later in the inning, Trevecca loaded up the bases. Then Henry Mosley was walked, resulting in a score from Josh Seiler to make it 10-3.

The Oilers tallied a run in the seventh inning before Jacob Lester scored on a Josh Seiler RBI single to make it 11-4. Then in the eighth inning, Findlay scored again to cut it to 11-5 to to begin a rally. In the ninth inning, the Oilers began to close the gap as they scored six runs to chip away at the deficit and tie the game at 11-11. Then in the ninth inning, Frankie Carreras walked off when he hit a RBI single to score Josh Griffin to win the game 12-11.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES GAME THREE:

  • Shawn Wallwork went 1-2 with an RBI.
  • Josh Seiler went 1-2 with a run scored.
  • Caleb Marks (4-4) allowed only two runs on four hits and struck out seven batters in six innings pitched.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES GAME FOUR:

  • Jacob Lester went 1-4 with a triple and two runs scored.
  • Josh Seiler went 2-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.
  • Shawn Wallwork went 3-5 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Henry Mosley went 2-4 with a home run, a double, four RBIs, and a run scored.
  • Frankie Carreras went 1-4 with a walkoff, two RBIs, and one run scored.

UP NEXT

The Trojans will head to Ohio Dominican (22-18, 14-9 Great Midwest) for a four-game series on April 28-29, starting at 2:00 PM. Trevecca holds a 9-3 lead in the all-time series. The Trojans have won the season series for two consecutive years.
