Trevecca Softball | Trojans Split with Northwood; Host Ashland Sunday at Noon

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (19-9, 5-1 Great Midwest) split a doubleheader with visiting Northwood University (18-11, 2-2 Great Midwest). The Trojans won the first game 7-1, but the Timberwolves took game two, 10-6, breaking the 12-game TNU win streak.

Trevecca is 4-2 versus Northwood all-time.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE REPORT:

Trevecca scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Anna Bennett doubled to center to drive in Jessie Brown for a 1-0 TNU lead.

Northwood evened the game at 1-1 with an answer in the top of the third on a solo home run from Jillian Krawczak.

The Trojans sealed the game with a six-run bottom of the third. Kendall Andrews doubled to the right to drive in Anna Bennett. Sarah Nicholson doubled to left, driving in Carly Sperlich and Kendall Andrews. Jaylah Edmondson, pinch-hitting, singled to score Gracie Kirby. Kyleigh Burgett finished the scoring with a two-run single that scored Malone Thrift and Sarah Nicholson.

Ashlan Sensing (9-4) got the win with a seven-inning complete game. She allowed just four hits and no other baserunners during the game, facing 25, just four over the minimum. She struck out eight Timberwolves. Sixty-four of her 92 pitches were strikes.

GAME TWO REPORT:

Northwood made noise with three runs in the top of the first and added three in the top of the second and third innings for a 9-5 advantage. Trevecca added one more run in the sixth, but the Timberwolves plated one more in the top of the seventh for the final result.

Each team collected 14 hits.

Alex Behnke (6-4) took the loss, but three Trojan hurlers combined allowed ten runs on 14 hits with three walks. The visitors hit two home runs.

The ten runs allowed by the Trojans today is the most of any game all season. In fact, the most the Trojans allowed in any game previously this season was five.

GAME ONE- CIRCLE & BOX NOTES

  • Sensing hit 99 strikeouts on the year and the second-lowest earned run average in the league.
  • Anna Bennett went 2-4 with a run scored, RBI, and a double.
  • Every Trojan starter reached base, and five different players drove in a run.
  • Jessie Brown walked three times, scored a run, and added to her league-leading stolen base total.

GAME TWO - CIRCLE & BOX NOTES

  • Jessie Brown continued her hot bat going 4-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two more stolen bases.
  • Sarah Nicholson hit another double and drove in two runs.  She's second on the team with six doubles.
  • Anna Bennett went 2-4 with a run scored.
  • Malone Thrift also had a multi-hit game going 2-4.

UP NEXT

The Trojans host Ashland University (11-17, 5-3 Great Midwest) in a Sunday doubleheader.

The Trojans are 4-1 all-time against the Eagles. The Eagles have won four in a row.

On Saturday, April 1, the Trojans host Northwood University at 1 PM for a two-game set.

Trevecca's next doubleheader is versus Lee University (7-23) on Tuesday, April 4, starting at 2:00 PM.

Trevecca is 6-8 versus the Flames in the NCAA Division II era. TNU took the last meeting with LU 14-8, which was in 2019.
