Box Score 2 LEESBURG, Fla. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (10-8) played two more games today in the 2023 PFX The Spring Games. The Trojans defeated Staten Island (3-4), 8-0, before defeating Wheeling University (1-12), 3-2, on day three of The Spring Games. In game one, Trojan pitcher Ashlan Sensing threw a complete game as she allowed no runs on no hits while striking out nine of the 18 batters she faced in six innings pitched. Her nine strikeouts equal a season high and are one off her career high. This is her third nine-strikeout game of the year. It is also her fifth complete game in nine starts this season.
The last time a Trojan pitcher pitched a perfect game was March 19, 2009, when Shelby Mashburn struck out 12 out of 15 batters en route to a 10-0 win over Fisk in five innings in the second game of a doubleheader. The last time the Trojans had a no-hitter was last season against Lake Erie on April 29, 2022 when Alex Behnke was a hit batter away from a perfect game.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
This was the first-ever meeting against Staten Island and Wheeling University, with the Trojans now having a 1-0 lead over both teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
STATEN ISLAND NOTES:
Bats were quiet for both teams for the game's first two innings. Then in the top of the third inning, the Trojans got rolling and scored three runs. Jessie Brown started the scoring when she reached home on an error by Staten Island's pitcher off of a Kendall Andrews bunt. Andrews was brought home off a sacrifice flyout by Brianna Asmondy. Gracie Kirby rounded out the scoring when a Sydney McCormick sac bunt brought her home. The Trojans added two more runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 5-0. Jessie Brown scored again off of a Kendall Andrews RBI single. Then Andrews was brought in by a Brianna Asmondy RBI single. In the sixth inning, the Trojans put the game away with three more runs to make it 8-0. Malone Thrift, Anna Bennett, and Jessie Brown scored on throwing errors by Staten Island. In the meantime, Trojan pitcher Ashlan Sensing was dominant all game long as she pitched a perfect game as she allowed no runs, no hits, and no runner to reach base, all while striking out nine batters, which sealed the win for the Trojans.
WHEELING UNIVERSITY NOTES:
Game two was quiet for the first three innings before Wheeling scored twice in the fourth. The Trojans got a run in the fifth inning when Malone Thrift reached home on an Anna Bennett triple. Then in the sixth inning, the Trojans took a 3-2 lead when Kendall Andrews scored on a Carly Sperlich RBI single. Then Alyssa Triner gave the Trojans the lead on a Maddie Poschke RBI double. On the other end, Trojan pitchers Rylee Veron and Brianna Asmondy held down the fort the rest of the way to help the Trojans claim victory.
STATEN ISLAND - CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
- Ashlan Sensing (4-4) pitched a perfect game as she allowed no runs, hits, and no batters to reach base while striking out nine batters in six innings pitched.
- Jessie Brown went 3-4 with three runs scored.
- Kendall Andrews went 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
- Anna Bennett went 2-4 with one run scored.

On Friday, the Trojans wrap up play at the PFX The Spring Games in Leesburg, Florida. Trevecca faces Southwest Minnesota State at 10:30 AM before taking on Edinboro at 1:00 PM. The Trojans are 0-1 against Southwest Minnesota State, an 8-4 loss on March 10, 2020, also at the Spring Games. The Trojans are 1-0 against Edinboro, taking the only matchup, 7-3, on March 12, 2020.
