Trevecca Baseball | UIS Takes Doubleheader From Trojans; Next at Union March 14

NASHVILLE - Trevecca Nazarene University baseball (4-9) dropped both ends of a doubleheader today with the University of Illinois Springfield (10-4). The Prairie Stars won the games 3-2 and 10-1. The UIS series was played at Rose Park, the home field of the Belmont University Bruins. The games were moved due to wind damage to Jackson Field on the Trevecca campus.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

UIS takes the lead in the all-time series 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

Trevecca scored a run in the bottom of the first and added another in the third for a 2-0 lead. In the first Josh Griffin drove in Joey Parliament on a ground out. Parliament walked to lead off the inning then advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a passed ball. In the third, Andru Becker scored a pitch off of Stars starter Ryan. Carmack over the fence in right-center for his first homerun of the season.

UIS scored their first run with a four-hit top of the sixth, but still trailed 2-1.

The game changed in favor of the Stars with a two-run top of the eighth. They did so following two singles to open the inning and an error to load the bases. Then pinch hitter Mack Clark doubled down the left field line to drive in two.

GAME 2

Trevecca got on the board first again with a run in the bottom of the second. Paxton Hughes doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a sac bunt from Josh Seiler. He scored on a Shawn Wallwork ground out.

UIS answered with a three-run third to gain the lead and padded their margin with a three-run fourth and a four-run sixth. The game was scheduled for seven innings.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES:

GAME ONE

The Trojans were held to two hits –  a double from Shawn Wallwork and the Andru Becker homerun.

Caleb Marks went seven innings and allowed two runs with six strikeouts.

GAME TWO

Trevecca's bats were held to three hits with two of those being doubles from Shawn Wallwork and Paxton Hughes.

UP NEXT

The Trojans have the rest of the week off and return to action a week from Tuesday when they play at Union University in Jackson, Tenn. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM at Fesmire Field.
