NASHVILLE: Trevecca Nazarene University baseball (7-9) opened up conference play against Hillsdale College (5-10) for a four-game series and won game one 13-5., then won game two 4-3 (seven innings). The games were moved to Trevecca due to weather conditions at Hillsdale.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
After taking five out of the last six games, the Trojans lead the series against Hillsdale, 10-8.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME ONE:
It did not take long for the Trojans to get going in game one as they jumped ahead 4-0 after the second inning. Bryant Goolsby opened the scoring on a David Milam RBI single. Then a Henry Mosley double brought in David Milam and Josh Seiler. Shawn Wallwork wrapped up the second inning scoring when he reached home on a Joey Parliment sac ground out to make it 4-0. Trevecca added runs in the third and fourth innings to extend its lead to 6-0. Bryant Goolsby reached home on a David Milam RBI double in the third inning. Then in the fourth, Joey Parliment scored on a Josh Griffin sac fly. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Hillsdale responded and got on the board with a single run. Then they scored two more in the fifth to make it 6-4. In the seventh inning, Trevecca's offense went off as they doubled their run total to put the game out of reach as they led 12-3. Roland Ryan, Cooper Whitt, Joey Parliment, and Shawn Wallwork hit RBI singles, and Henry Mosley hit an RBI double in the inning. Hillsdale attempted to come back, but the Trojans added a late run for insurance.
GAME TWO:
The Trojans struck fist again in game two when Bryant Goolsby hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning. Hillsdale responded to take the lead in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Trevecca rebounded to tie the game up at 2-2 in the top of the third when Henry Mosley scored off an Andru Becker sac ground out. Then in the fifth inning, Trevecca retook the lead with two runs to go up 4-2. Joey Parliment scored on an Andru Becker RBI double. Then Becker scored by fielder's choice on a Bryant Goolsby RBI single. Hillsdale attempted to rally late and scored one run to cut the Trojan's lead to 4-3. But the Trojan's defense got out of a tough two-batters on-base situation to seal the win.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES GAME ONE:
• Joey Parliment went 2-5 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
• Roland Ryan went 2-2 with two RBIs.
• David Milam went 2-6 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.
• Henry Mosley went 2-5 with two doubles, four RBIs, and a run scored.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES GAME TWO:
• Andru Becker went 1-4 with a double, two RBIs, and one run scored.
• Bryant Goolsby went 1-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and one run scored.
• Joey Parliment went 1-3 with a triple and one run scored.
• Jack Keele (2-1) allowed only three runs on seven hits while striking out three batters in 5.1 innings pitched.
UP NEXT
The Trojans will wrap up the series against Hillsdale on Thursday, starting at 2:00 PM for game three, a seven-inning game. Game four will be a nine-inning game starting at 5:00 PM.
