Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Drop Opening Games of 2022-23 Season To Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. – Trevecca Nazarene University baseball (0-2) opened up the 2022-23 season with a doubleheader at Belmont Abbey College (7-0) and lost game one 7-2 and lost 5-4 in game two (seven innings).

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Belmont Abbey won the first-ever meeting last season 7-3 at Jackson Field on February 12, 2022. The series is now 3-0 in favor of Belmont Abbey.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE:

Belmont Abbey started strong as they took an early 3-0 lead after scoring a run in the first and a pair of runs in the second. The Trojans got on the board when Paxton Hughes hit a home run in the fourth inning into right field, which brought in Josh Seiler to cut the Trojan's deficit to 3-2. Belmont Abbey responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend their lead. Belmont Abbey's pitching kept the Trojans in check, holding them to two runs.

GAME TWO:

The Trojans came out for revenge in game two as they stormed out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. In the first inning, Josh Griffin led things off with a solo home run. Then with two out, Henry Mosley hit a single to drive in Roland Ryan. Then in the second inning, Josh Griffin tripled to bring Jacob Lester in. Griffin was brought in on a Shawn Wallwork single. Belmont Abbey responded with two runs in the bottom of the second to make it 4-2. They scored three runs between the fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-4 lead and would prevent the Trojans from scoring to take the game.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES- GAME ONE

Paxton Hughes went 1-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and one run scored,
Josh Seiler went 1-2 with one run scored. He also walked twice.
Henry Mosley went 1-3.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES- GAME TWO

Josh Griffin went 2-4 with a home run, a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
Shawn Wallwork went 1-4 with an RBI.
Henry Mosley went 2-3 with an RBI.

UP NEXT

The Trojans wrap up their series against Belmont Abbey tomorrow at 10:00 AM. The Trojans will host Lincoln Memorial on Friday, February 17, at 2:00 PM for their home opener.
