Trevecca Men's Soccer | Loss to Kentucky Wesleyan Closes Trojans Season

Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University Men's Soccer team (5-10-2, 4-8-2 Great Midwest) lost to Kentucky Wesleyan College (7-4-6, 4-4-5 Great Midwest), 3-2, at the Trevecca Soccer Complex.

The loss ends the season for the Trojans who needed to win and get some help, but the loss leaves them just out of the playoffs. 

The season ending also brings to a close the career in the Purple and White for Giuliano Palma, Connor Lundy, Douglas de Silva Moura, Michael Martey, Cameron Hess, Orlando Jerez, Heeseung Yoo, Zachary Polk, David Elvir, and David Lehning.

Panther Daniel Nkurunziza, assisted by Santiago Henrich, started the scoring sinking a shot low center for a goal at 20:11.

Trojan Ben Sieber converted for the equalizer at 25:02 with an assist from Max Titterington.

The first period ended at 1-1. In the first period, both teams produced seven shots. The Trojans had a 3-2 edge in shots on goals.  

Nkurunziza gave the Panthers the lead again with his second goal, this time unassisted at 76:48, putting the visitors up 2-1.

Just under four minutes later (80:00), Sam Barrionuevo scored another equalizer for the Trojans, and with ten minutes left the tension was deep.  

Unfortunately, Matteo Napoletano broke the tie with KWC's third goal at 84:53. The 3-2 lead stood, giving the Panthers 3-2 victory.

The 2023-2024 season is the 25th for men's soccer. The team finished 5-11-2 overall, 4-9-2 in league play, and 5-3 in games played on the Hill.

Marlon Grossmann led the team with nine goals and added three assists for a team-high 21 points. Grossmann has 17 career goals, five assists, and 39 points. He has five game winning goals following his three this season. He is tied for third all-time in the NCAA Era in career goals. He is eight behind Jeremiah Wright who holds the record with 25. His 39 points are tied for fourth with Jonathan Baskin and Matt Raines. He is tied for second most goals in a season in the NCAA Era with nine this year. He is tied with former Trojan and current assistant Ethan Keogh, in 2017. Jeremiah also scored nine in a season, in 2013. Jonathan Baskin is the record holder with ten. 

Sam Barrionuevo had eight points with three goals adn two assists. 

Mas Titterington led the team with five assists and added a goal for the third most points on the squad, seven. 

Adan Gonzalez and Giuliano Palma each started nine matches in goal for the Trojans. Gonzalez went 2-5-1 with a 1.58 goals against average. Palma went 3-5-1 iwth two shutouts and a 1.49 goals against average. 

The program is 151-249-29 overall in its 25 seasons and is 78-130-12 in combined conference play. In the Great Midwest, the program is 51-78-8.

Danny Leavy is 95-142-14 overall and 57-94-8 in league play.
