Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (7-3) defeated Lane University (6-3) in a 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-9, 25-20) on Tuesday night at Trojan Fieldhouse.
THE SERIES
The Trojans win the first-ever matchup between the two teams and now have a 1-0 lead in the series.
THE MATCH
This start of the first set was very contested, as both teams matched each other point for point. The Trojans got going following a 5-5 tie, which saw the Trojans catch fire and finish the set on a 20-6 run to claim the first set 25-11.
Set two began as another close contest early on as the teams were tied at six early in the set. Then just like in the first set, the Trojans got rolling as they allowed only three more points by Lane in the second set. The Trojans finished off the second set with a 14-1 run to take the second set. The Trojans, as a team, hit .500 for the second set.
The third set was by far the most even of the match. Lane matched the Trojans point for point until the game was tied at 9-9. Following the point, Lane built up its largest lead of the match and was ahead 15-11. But a 5-1 Trojan run capped off by an Ellie Buffler service ace tied the game back up. Later in the set, Emma Titus collected three kills in a 5-0 run that gave the Trojans the lead they did not relinquish.
The Trojans had more kills than Lane, 37-17, and were dominant in the serve game. The Trojans had 11 service aces, while Lane had none.

The Trojans will head on the road for a Friday meeting against Ashland University (4-5) at 5 p.m.
