Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (12-6, 5-3 Great Midwest) swept Ursuline College (2-13, 0-8 Great Midwest) in three sets (25-13, 25-21, 25-14) on Friday evening in Trojan Fieldhouse. The win keeps the Trojans in the mix for postseason play.
The Trojans end a three-game home stand Saturday when they host Lake Erie, it is the last home match until Ashland University visits on October 21.
THE SERIES
Trevecca is 10-6 against the Arrows of Ursuline in 16 all-time meetings. The Trojans are 4-1 over the last five meetings.
THE FLOW
The Arrows started with a 2-1 lead, but Trevecca heated up quickly with an 11-3 run to establish a 12-5 lead in the first set. The Trojans never led the Arrows in the first set, closing out with a 12-point win – 25-13. Maddie Wilds led the Trojan attack with four kills in the set. Ellie Buffler had three service aces.
The second set was the most contested with four ties and three lead changes. Ursuline led 3-2 before Trevecca outscored Ursuline 10-1 to build a 12-4 lead and looked to be about to salt the match away. Ursuline didn't shake that easily, roaring back to tie the match at 20-20. A service error derailed the Arrow rally and Trevecca closed with a 5-1 advantage for the 25-21 win. Emma Titus paced the Trojans with four kills.
Ursuline led early in the third set, leading 3-0, and didn't relinquish the lead until the Trojans pulled ahead 5-4. The Trojans held the lead the rest of the way but didn't get a comfortable separation until later in the set. UC cut the Trojan lead to three (12-9) when the Trojans pressed the gas pedal with a 10-2 run for a 22-11 advantage. The Trojans closed it out 25-14. Emma Green produced five kills with two blocks in the set.
THE NOTES
Trevecca hit .438 (15-1-32) in the first set and then in the third hit .435 (14-4-23).
Emilee McDonald had 34 assists in the three-set match and added two service aces, three kills, and 10 digs. Katie Crutchfield also added 10 digs.
Emma Titus led the team with nine kills and a .438 attack percentage. Titus added four blocks.
Emma Green led the team with five blocks and eight kills. Green hit .889 with no errors in her nine attacks. She had one of the Trojan's 14 service aces.
Conference service ace leader Ellie Buffler added three more to her totals.
UP NEXT
Lake Erie College (2-12, 0-7 Great Midwest) makes the trip to Nashville on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. to face the Trojans. This is the sixth meeting between the two schools in volleyball. The Storm won the first three in the series, but now the Trojans look to even the all-time series with a two-match win streak in the series.
