Box Score HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (10-6, 3-3 Great Midwest) was swept by the No. 22 Hillsdale College (12-2, 5-0 Great Midwest) Chargers (15-25, 25-27, 22-25) on Saturday in Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.
THE SERIES
The Trojans have never beaten the Chargers through nine all-time matches. Hillsdale joined the Great Midwest prior to the 2017 season and has often been ranked nationally in the AVCA polls.
THE FLOW
The nationally ranked No. 22 Chargers wasted little time showing off their skills on Saturday. Hillsdale jumped out to a quick 5-0 before head coach Emily Moore called a timeout. Trevecca scrounged three points before the Chargers secured their next five and at 10-3 Moore called her final timeout. The break stopped the rally, but not for long as the Chargers claimed the opener, 25-13.
The 5-0 run to kick things off belonged to the Trojans in the second set, the most competitive set of the match. Trevecca's lead stretched to as many as seven (15-8) mid-way through the second, before the Chargers rallied. Down 19-13, Hillsdale used a 3-0 run to pull within three before forcing a 24-24 tie. The Trojans looked at set point with an Ellie Buffler kill but the Chargers secured the set's final trio of points for the 27-25 win.
The early stages of the third set showed signs of a sweep with the Chargers springing to the early 8-3 advantage. Trevecca never led in the third but after an Emma Titus kill and an attack error by Hillsdale forced a tie at 14-14. Despite the Trojans' efforts, the Chargers hung on for a 25-22 set and match win.
THE NOTES
Neither side commanded a strong hitting percentage as the Trojans finished with a .126 mark compared to the Chargers' .193 percentage. Hillsdale held the upper hand in digs 71-62, assists 43-33 and service aces 4-1.
Ellie Buffler (.179) was the lone Trojan to touch double-figure kills (12) while Emma Titus (.240) followed with seven.
