Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Take Out Yellow Jackets in Four

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (10-4, 3-1 Great Midwest) defeated Cedarville University (5-7, 3-2 Great Midwest) in four sets (23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-11) on Saturday at Trojan Fieldhouse.

THE SERIES

The Trojans have won the last three matches against Cedarville, with the Yellow Jackets controlling a 16-7 lead in the all-time series.

THE FLOW

The opening set was the most back-and-forth competitive set of the match as the largest lead for either team was three. With the set tied at 21-21, three straight points gave Cedarville a set point. Trevecca fended off two before Riley Hensley's kill gave the Yellow Jackets their only set win of the day, 25-23.

The second set saw a 7-7 tie early before Cedarville used a 4-0 run to create separation. A 6-1 run by the Trojans forced a 15-15 tie. Maddie Wilds collected a kill to end the second, 25-22.

Even though the third set saw the Trojans facing a 15-7 deficit, they slowly climbed back into the set to force a tie at 19-19. From there both sides traded points until Cedarville cracked first. An Emma Titus kill followed by an attack error from the Yellow Jackets saw the Trojans take the third, 25-23.

Other than the opening point, not much else went the way of Cedarville in the fourth. The Trojans responded with six consecutive points and led 11-3 before the Yellow Jackets could score again. A 9-0 run, fueled by three services aces propelled the Trojans to a commanding 20-4 advantage which they finished off for a 25-11 win.

THE NOTES

The Trojans won their first of the season in which they dropped the opening set thanks in part to 14 kills from Maddie Wilds. Ellie Buffler (12) and Emma Titus (11) also touched double figures in kills while Emilee McDonald led the digs category with 21.

The team combined for 14 service aces hitting .269 as a squad.

UP NEXT

The Trojans head to the University of Findlay (5-7, 2-0 Great Midwest) on Friday and then face off against Hillsdale College (10-2, 3-0) a week from today.
