Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's soccer team (2-0-1) opened the road portion of their 2022 schedule with a 3-2 non-conference win over the University of Illinois Springfield (1-1-1) on Thursday night in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Trojans got rolling to start the game as Annie Warner opened the scoring just 2:16 into the game, and Danyel Joy got the assist. Following the goal, both teams settled in as no more goals were scored in the first half.
In the second half, business picked up quickly as Illinois Springfield tied the game just 2:33 into the second half. The Trojans rebounded quickly, responding with two goals in a minute and 35 seconds, both off the foot of Skye Baun. Baun scored her first in the 49th minute and the second in the 51st. The Lipscomb transfer now has a team-high three goals on the year. Ariana Bilderback and Makena Schlosser assisted on the goals respectively.
Illinois Springfield attempted a late rally and cut the TNU lead in half with a goal in the 72nd minute. But the Trojans defense held the line from there for the win.
The Trojans return to action Saturday, September 3, at McKendree (12 p.m.). The Bearcats are 2-0 this season after winning 2-1 against Upper Iowa University and 1-0 against Concordia University. The Trojans are currently 0-2 against McKendree.
